Shincheonji Volunteer Group was founded by Shincheonji Church of Jesus, the Temple of the Tabernacle of the Testimony (Shincheonji Church of Jesus) in South Korea. Its purpose is to break down the barriers of conflict found within class, gender, religion, and politics, and unite hearts and minds by putting the teachings of love and service received from heaven into practice for the betterment of communities.

Recently, on the 30th June, Shincheonji Volunteer Group Suwon Branch (Director Dong-seong Kim) conducted an environmental cleaning activity along National Road No. 1 and flower beds in Jangan District, Suwon City.

The Suwon Stream cleanup was planned for Budnegyo Bridge, but in preparation for imminent flooding of the stream due to the rain, the activity was carried out along National Road No. 1 and the flower beds in Jangan District.

During the rainy season, the drains in this area are typically clogged, and the water often flows back. The Suwon branch of Shincheonji Volunteer Group focused on picking up cigarette butts, the cause of clogged drains.

Group 1 was in charge of empty bottles and cans along the roadside, group 2 was in charge of plastic bags and PET bottles, and group 3 was in charge of general litter collection.

Volunteer Dae-yeop Kim (pseudonym), who participated in the activity, said, “As I was picking up beer cans, empty bottles, umbrellas and cigarette butts discarded in the filthy and wet flower beds, and seeing the litter strewn about, I wondered whether I'd inadvertently littered and thought I should really cultivate the habit of picking up litter.”

An elderly man passing by handed volunteers bottles of water, saying, “Thank you to the young volunteers for their acts of service despite the heat and humidity.”
