On the 10th June, Shincheonji Volunteer Group Gumi branch held a signboard ceremony for the '10th Wall Story' at Gumi Senior Welfare Center, South Korea.

'Wall Story' is one of the three major projects of Shincheonji Volunteer Group, and is a 'mural painting' volunteer activity conducted by 70 branches across the country. It is an urban regeneration project that restores dilapidated murals through drawings and paintings, depicting characteristics specific to local regions and the stories of local residents on murals. The themes and pictures designed on the murals are decorated at the request of the beneficiaries.

About 150 volunteers from the Gumi branch of Shincheonji Volunteer Group participated in the mural painted on the 50m wall of Gumi-gil Senior Welfare Center over a 15-day period from the 21st of May to the 4th of June.

The signboard ceremony was attended by regional organisations in Gumi city, journalists, welfare centre officials, and Gil Senior Welfare Center Director Jin-cheol Park, who presented a plaque of appreciation to Shincheonji Volunteer Group.

Hwa-chul Kim, president of the Gumi branch of the Korean War Veterans Association, said, “If you clean the rough walls and fill in the cracks with paint, any hatred for the other will disappear like snow.”

In particular, Shincheonji Volunteer Group, following the Pohang and Gyeongju districts, also painted murals at Sinsedong Mural Village, a tourist attraction, from the 25th to the 31st of last month at the Andong branch with a message of harmony and communication.

Won-ho Lee, head of the Gumi branch of Shincheonji Volunteer Group, emphasised, “The sky is always giving us the precious light, rain and air. Likewise, we will become a volunteer group that freely and generously shares the mindset of heaven.”

Meanwhile, the murals painted by the volunteers of Gumi branch include, among others, in front of Sinpyeong Elementary School, Gumi Elementary School, and Wangsan Elementary School in 2013; Doryang 1-dong Intersection in 2014; Doryang 2-dong in 2015; a shopping centre in 2016; Gumi Station Jungang-ro in 2017; Seronet Systems Co., Ltd. in 2018; and Wonpyeong-dong's shopping district in 2021.
