Shincheonji Volunteer Group Chungju Branch & Korea Transportation Association for People with Disabilities gather for 'Five Senses Tour'

by - 10:19

[Cheonji Ilbo Gangwon = Correspondent Hyeon-bok Lee] Shincheonji Volunteer Group Chungju Branch (Branch Manager Jae-joon Oh) held the '9th Health Doctor' programme, which included a 'Five Senses Tour' activity that promotes emotional wellbeing and inspires hope in people with disabilities in Danyang district on the 10th (Fri).

The event was attended by 23 members of the Korea Transportation Association for People with Disabilities and 27 volunteers, including Shincheonji Volunteer Group's medical team, sports coaches, transportation protocol team, and volunteers with disabilities for a safe and orderly event.

Participants spent a fruitful time viewing a cruise ship, eating, engaging in sports activities and a pottery craft experience.

'Health Doctor' programme puts love for one's neighbour into practice by providing free medical services to foreign workers who are in the medical 'blind spot', the elderly living alone, and the underprivileged.

In particular, since last year, a travel programme has been conducted for people with disabilities who are typically unable to engage in outside activities due to their health and cannot even dare to do so without a helping hand. The 'Health Doctor' programme promotes emotional wellbeing and truly satisfies the five human senses.

On the visual and auditory tour, they enjoyed Dodamsambong Peak, which provides a superb view of Danyang county, and the sound of nature, such as the sounds of water and birds, through the cruise ship, and finally moved to Danyang's famous restaurants to give pleasure to their senses of smell and taste.

They had time to show off their dexterity by visiting the pottery village on a tactile trip, challenging themselves to make cups, and playing mini-soccer and badminton as part of the 'Strong Body, Strong Mind' sub-programme. Various prizes as MVPs (Most Valuable Player) were awarded and the experience was met with a great response from the members.

On that day, Chungju Volunteer Centre's relay event was also held, and after the ceremony, Nak-jeong Kim, the head of the volunteer centre, sponsored potato rice cakes for the members of the Association and volunteers who were going on the trip, and various other snacks were donated by various organisations. They contributed to the joy and success of the five senses tour.

Mr. Park, a member of the Five Senses Tour, said, “We went on a trip and soaked in the beautiful landscape. We thought we wouldn't be able to do much because of our limitations, but today we experienced many things.”

In addition, one member who received the MVP said, “I've been on many programmes, but this is the first time I've experienced such a systematic one.”

An official from the volunteer group said, “We were very moved seeing all the members of the Transportation Association for People with Disabilities having so much fun and actively participating in all programmes.”

Meanwhile, Shincheonji Volunteer Group Chungju Branch is setting an example for the local community by conducting various services such as 'Wall Story (Mural Volunteer Service)', 'Love for Country and Peace-Sharing', the monthly 'Good Consumption, Good Donation Campaign', and 'More the Better' programmes and projects.
