Wonju Branch of Shincheonji Volunteer Group holds 'Bright Mini Sports Day' with Senior Citizens' Centre
[Cheonji Ilbo Gangwon = Correspondent Hyeon-bok Lee] Shincheonji Volunteer Group Wonju branch held a mini sports day at Wonjucheon Park on the 10th (Friday) with members of the Senior Citizens' Centre Gaeundong branch, spreading warmth.
On that day, about 30 people attended, including Seok-Woo Jang, the head of the Senior Citizens' Centre Gaedong branch, Seok-Kyun Ha, a provincial council member, Don-Nam Yeom, chairman of Labour Party, members of the Senior Citizens' Centre, and Shincheonji Volunteer Group.
The Bright Sports Festival planned the mini sports event with the Wonju branch of Shincheonji Volunteer Group after hearing of the difficulty in meeting while floor construction was underway at the senior citizens' centre.
The seniors enjoyed the spring breeze under the blue sky, and enjoyed various activities such as Yut Nori (traditional Korean board game throwing yut sticks), eating snacks, and singing.
Don-nam Yeom, chairman of Labor Party, said, “It was frustrating because it was difficult to access the senior citizens' centre for several days. I'd heard of the plans of this event and called every centre member to join. We've had a very enjoyable time today,” he said.
An elderly person over the age of 90 said, “I remember a sports day in primary school 80 years ago. I am looking forward to such a great event and am thankful to Shincheonji volunteers who visit us once a month.”
An official from the local administrative welfare centre said, “Thank you for showing care towards the elderly. I'm grateful to Shincheonji Volunteer Group for always making special preparations.”
