Shincheonji Volunteer Group Gangwon Branch & Environmental 21st Regiment conduct environmental clean-up activity to welcome spring in Namdaecheon
On the 25th, Shincheonji Volunteer Group Gangneung Branch (Manager Geun-chang Lee) held an environmental clean-up activity to welcome the new spring along with members of the Gangwon Headquarters of the Environmental 21st Regiment at Namdaecheon waterfront.
This activity was prepared as an environmental clean-up campaign and a survey campaign to raise awareness for separate waste disposal for early morning market traders and Gangneung citizens under the theme of 'Green for Nature'.
Both groups announced the purpose of the collaborative litter clean-up effort around the waterfront to be to pass down the beautiful natural environment of Gangneung as a legacy to future generations.
In particular, from the dawn market to Hongjegyo Bridge, a campaign was conducted to educate on environmental clean-up activities and separate waste disposal.
36 members of the Gangneung branch of Shincheonji Volunteer Group actively participated, and the litter collected filled 22 50-litre bags.
Chun-bang Koo, head of the Gangwon Headquarters of the Environmental 21st Solidarity, said, “Currently, we are a volunteer group made up of office workers and other volunteers serving 10 days a month, but since most of us are office workers, the number of volunteers is small.”
Geun-chang Lee, head of Gangneung Branch of Shincheonji Volunteer Group, said, “In order to bring beautiful Namdaecheon to Gangneung citizens, we will continue to do volunteer work with the Environmental 21st Regiment and one-time volunteer activities so that citizens can enjoy better surroundings in Namdaecheon.”
Meanwhile, the Gangwon Headquarters of the Environmental 21st Regiment, a corporation registered under the Ministry of Environment, is a non-profit civic group established for the preservation and protection of the natural environment, and is doing volunteer work to protect flora and fauna. Last year, it won the Ministry of Environment Award.
Meanwhile, the Gangneung branch of Shincheonji Volunteer Group continues to conduct various activities for the development of the local community through programmes and projects, including 'Good Consumption, Good Donation' to boost the local economy; 'Beautiful Seniors!' to provide cultural activities for seniors' overall wellbeing; 'Visiting Health Doctor', which provides free medical services to foreign workers who are often caught in the medical 'blind spot', the elderly living alone, and the underprivileged; 'More the Better' for the promotion of emotional wellbeing through the sharing of companion plants; and 'Life ON Youth ON' blood donation campaign to address the blood supply shortages.
