Numerous media outlets in South Korea have been reporting on the many activities conducted by Shincheonji Volunteer Group for nationwide community development, particularly during the emerging 'post-COVID' era. Most recently, on the morning of the 16th May, Shincheonji Volunteer Group Cheongju Branch conducted its 'Green Nature' campaign to clean up the environment in the Gangseo 1-neighbourhood area of Cheongju city.

'Green Nature' is an environmental clean-up activity promoted by Shincheonji Volunteer Group to pass on a beautiful environment to future generations.

This service was conducted in the vicinity of the Biha Urban Development Project, where a number of civil complaints continued due to habitual illegal fly-tipping and littering. Shincheonji Volunteer Group worked hard to collect all sorts of household waste and discarded furniture that had piled up around the underpass in Biha neighbourhood.

Mr. Park, a 70-year-old resident who passed by, said, “I've lived in this neighbourhood since the 1990s, but it's the first time I've seen litter being removed. I can’t even begin to tell you how grateful I am for this cleanup.”

Rubbish was collected by an underpass and hiking trail to the mountain.

Mr. Kim, a hiker in his 50s, said, “The person who disposed of this rubbish should clean it up, and the police should do something. But thanks to the volunteers, the surroundings are now clean. I'm glad.”

Kyu-heon Lee, a member of Shincheonji Volunteer Group Cheongju Branch, who participated in the volunteer service, said, “I think volunteering is a small way to put love for one's neighbour into practice. I feel good, even though it's hot, because I could personally gather all the rubbish with the thought that 'someone will clean this up'.”

According to Shincheonji Volunteer Group, the volunteer activity was carried out at the request of Gangseo 1-dong Administrative Welfare Centre. An official from Gangseo 1-dong Administrative Welfare Centre said, “Thanks to today’s environmental cleanup, I think local residents will be pleased. It was of particular help because this area had a lot of complaints about littering.”

Mu-gyeom Je, head of Shincheonji Volunteer Group Cheongju Branch, said, “Shincheonji Volunteer Group Cheongju Branch is continuing to provide services for the community with the attitude of practising the love received from God and Jesus for our neighbour. We will continue to play our role as the light and salt of the community through various environmental clean-up activities, donations, and services.”

Meanwhile, the Cheongju branch of Shincheonji Volunteer Group conducted a large-scale river clean-up activity in Musimcheon Stream in April. In addition, the Cheongju branch continues to conduct various volunteer activities, including 'More the Better' for the promotion of emotional wellbeing through sharing companion plants, 'Pinky Promise' for the promotion of emotional wellbeing for people with disabilities, 'Visiting Health Doctor' for the medically vulnerable, and 'Wall Story', an urban regeneration project for the restoration of dilapidated murals through mural drawings and paintings.
