Shincheonji Volunteer Group Seongnam Branch donates home-grown companion plants to Seongnam Association of Persons with Disabilities
Numerous media outlets in South Korea have been reporting on the good work conducted by Shincheonji Volunteer Group for the betterment of the local community in this emerging 'post-COVID' era. Most recently, the Seongnam branch of Shincheonji Volunteer Group conducted its 'More the Better' programme with the Seongnam City Association of Persons with Disabilities on the 5th April to commemorate the 1st anniversary of their MOU.
'More the Better' is a voluntary service in which volunteers grow plants for about a month for environmental purification, and then donate them to individuals or organisations in need of horticultural treatment or ecological study, together with a message of hope.
On that day, Shincheonji Volunteer Group's Seongnam Branch had time to look back on the year by watching videos of the events they had volunteered for.
The Seongnam branch of Shincheonji Volunteer Group has donated a total of 500 companion plants to Seongnam City Association of Persons with Disabilities, helping promote the emotional wellbeing of the Association members.
Man-gi Jin, head of the Seongnam branch of Shincheonji Volunteer Group, said, “We're happy to be gathered here after spending the last year working with the Association of Persons with Disabilities nationwide.”
An official from the Seongnam City Association of Persons with Disabilities expressed gratitude, saying, “Thanks to the plants donated over the past year, the members of the Association have been able to find psychological healing.”
Meanwhile, in addition to the 'More the Better' programme, Shincheonji Volunteer Group is carrying out various volunteer activities of practical help to the local community, such as the 'Visiting Health Doctor' programme, which provides free medical services to foreign workers, who are often caught in the medical blind spot, the elderly living alone, and the underprivileged; and a floristry masterclass.
