Shincheonji Volunteer Group, Seoul East Branch, conducts 'Green Nature' environmental clean-up campaign
[Cheonji Ilbo Seoul = Reporter Yeon - sook Song] Shincheonji Volunteer Group's Seoul East Branch carried out an activity to clean up the environment and reduce disposable waste as part of an environmental campaign from Junggye Station to Nowon Station in Nowon district, Seoul on the 21st.
About 25 volunteers from the Seoul East Branch participated in this campaign with the intention of handing down a beautiful environment for posterity.
On the day, volunteers held pickets which read, 'Let's save the earth together with zero waste!' 'Save the Earth!' Cigarette butts and litter were collected across a distance of about 2km with a sign that read 'picking, walking'. The litter collected through this environmental clean-up volunteer activity amounted to about 400 litres.
A volunteer who participated in this campaign said, “I think an environmental clean-up is necessary,” and “We need to think about what we need to do to maintain the environment, such as reducing disposable waste and properly separating waste.”
The volunteer added, “I think that cultivating the habit of not disposing of waste anywhere is important.” Another volunteer said, “I felt like my heart was being cleaned as we were cleaning the streets.”
A local resident who watched the environmental campaign greeted them warmly and said, “Cleaning up in front of my home is a nuisance, so I was surprised to see them peering through the trees and picking up cigarette butts and even loose waste.”
An official from the Seoul East Branch of Shincheonji Volunteer Group said, “This activity is not a one-off. We plan to select one place regularly every month to do this activity.”
