Shincheonji Volunteer Group, Daegu-Gyeongbuk branch, aids Typhoon Hinnamno relief effort
[Cheonji Ilbo Daegu = Reporter Hae-in Song] Shincheonji Volunteer Group, Daegu-Gyeongbuk branch, visited the disaster site in Buk shopping district, Pohang city, Gyeongbuk province, which was damaged by Typhoon Hinnamno, the 11th typhoon of the season, on the 7th and 8th September.
They provided a helping hand to local residents by aiding the relief effort.
About 100 volunteers participated in cleaning streets engrossed by rubbish around Duho Market (Changpo, Buk district, Pohang city) and Daedong Shopping Centre (Wuchang neighbourhood), and washed household items, among other activities.
A woman in her 50s, who suffered as a victim of extensive damage despite taking every preventive measure, said, “It was terrifying, but seeing these volunteers take on this work is so reassuring and good. It’s very helpful and comforting.”
Sang-don Kim (60), who has suffered flood damage for the fifth time in his 27 years of business, said, “The damage this time was the worst and I had no choice but to roll up my sleeves. Thank you for always helping me overcome this difficulty.”
Hong-sam Noh, director of Shincheonji Volunteer Group, Daegu-Gyeongbuk branch, said, “We've come out to volunteer after hearing about the troubles experienced by the citizens of Pohang. It breaks our heart witnessing the damage inflicted on Pohang citizens and we hope that the relief effort will be completed as soon as possible. We will continue to support you through prayer, and work with hope until the end.”
Meanwhile, Shincheonji Volunteer Group continues to consistently carry out campaigns and initiatives, including 'Green for Nature', 'More the Better', and 'Chakki-Chakso', in order to benefit residents of local communities.
