“I think that volunteering is about pouring your time and heart into it, so it seems that the people who participate feel happier”
Ji-yoon Park (26, female), a member of the Yeosu Branch of the Shincheonji Volunteer Group, expressed her joy towards the rebirth of the urban forest in Hwayang Township, Yeosu City, South Jeolla Province, ahead of the '2026 Yeosu World Islands Expo'.
The 2026 Yeosu World Islands Expo will be held for a total of 61 days, from September 5th to November 4th 2026, under the theme of ‘Connecting the Island, Sea and the Future’. It is the world's first island-themed exhibition where 30 countries are expected to gather for an international forum to discuss the charm, value and importance of each country's islands and explore their development potential. Over 3 million visitors are expected.
In order to create a beautiful winter garden ahead of the 2026 Yeosu World Islands Expo, about 60 members of the Yeosu branch and officials from Hwayang Council rolled up their sleeves to plant 2600 cauliflowers and two types of winter pansies at the urban forest site in Hwayang Township on the 16th November. Cauliflower and pansy are known to bloom vigorously and beautifully even in the cold winter, providing an abundant sight.
An official from the Hwayang Council said, “I am glad that a beautiful garden has been created filled with things to see and enjoy for citizens and tourists ahead of the ‘2026 Yeosu World Islands Expo.’”
Meanwhile, the Yeosu branch of the Shincheonji Volunteer Group plans to continue to manage the garden, including removing weeds and watering.
