“I am very grateful for the 10 years of consistent service to the senior citizens at the Senior Welfare Centre. Now, you are like family, not strangers.”
This is what Do-hyeon Kim, the head of the Dongbu Senior Welfare Centre, which provides basic livelihood support for seniors who are at risk of skipping meals and opportunities for emtional exchange, said about the Shincheonji Volunteer Group Dongdaemun Branch (hereinafter referred to as the Dongdaemun Branch).
This year, 1934 volunteers of the Dongdaemun Branch have participated and carried out various volunteer activities for the local community in Dongdaemun District, Seoul.
The Dongdaemun branch has shown love to local residents through various volunteer activities such as environmental protection, donations, and carbon neutral campaigns.
Major activities include 37 street cleanings for the environmental protection campaign, collecting 4447 litres of litter, conducting 12 ‘Beautiful Seniors’ campaigns to support the seniors to live a healthy and happy ageing, donating 480kg of rice and 240kg of kimchi to the Byeoksan Senior Welfare Centre and Dongbu Senior Welfare Centre, seven carbon neutral campaigns, promoting to over 2000 people, and more.
In recognition of their consistent efforts, the Dongdaemun Branch received a plaque of appreciation and a commendation from the district mayor from the Byeoksan Senior Centre and Dongbu Senior Centre this year in recognition of its consistent service for over 10 years.
