“There aren’t many people who remember us who risked our lives fighting for our country, but the Guri-Namyangju branch comes every year to express their gratitude.”
This is the impression of veterans towards the Shincheonji Volunteer Group Guri-Namyangju Branch (hereinafter referred to as the Guri-Namyangju Branch), which wrapped up its service to the local community in 2024.
The main activities of the Guri-Namyangju Branch this year included 14 environmental clean-up and climate crisis campaigns that amassed 1435 litres of general waste, including cigarette butts, and 535 litres of plants that disrupt the ecosystem; 2 services for people with physical disability that break down the barriers dividing people of disability from people without; and 2 veterans' events to commemorate the noble spirit of those who fought to protect peace during the Korean War. A total of 365 volunteers and over 1000 citizens participated in the campaigns.
In particular, the Guri-Namyangju Branch launched the 'Inconvenient Truth About Cigarette Butts: Prohibition on Littering of Cigarette Butts' campaign, a carbon neutrality campaign around Dasan Station, a forest fire caution campaign at Geumdaesan Mountain, and an 'Upcycling Experience' held in line with the Carbon Neutrality Campaign which engaged the mental and physical resources of more than 50 members of the Association of People with Disability.
An official from the Guri Namyang branch said, “In the new year of 2025, we will become a Guri-Namyangju branch that sincerely and diligently delivers love and hope to the local community.”
