The 10th annual filial piety feast for the elderly in Daejeon's Seo-gu district is spreading warmth to the local community.
The Shincheonji Volunteer Group Daejeon Chungcheong Association (Chairman Jang Bang-sik, hereinafter referred to as the Daejeon Chungcheong Association) held the '10th Filial Piety Feast' at the KW Convention Center in Seo-gu, Daejeon on the 9th.
This event was hosted by the Daejeon Chungcheong Federation and the Daehan Hyo-Chung-ui Federation and sponsored by the Daejeon Elementary School Anti-Corruption National Movement Federation, and was designed to invite senior citizens from the western region.
The filial piety banquet has been held for the past 10 years to convey gratitude and respect to the elderly in the community and to encourage the idea of treating the elderly with respect. This year’s filial piety banquet was a part of the efforts made so far, and it was an opportunity to look back on the 10 years of walking together with the community and renew the promise of continued coexistence in the future.
On this day, the Daejeon Chungcheong Union received a plaque of appreciation from the Marine Corps and the press for practicing the value of sharing with the elderly in the region through volunteer activities and filial piety programs.
This year in particular, the scale and quality of the event were greatly enhanced through collaboration with various groups in the local community, and efforts were made to provide a better experience for seniors.
In his commemorative speech, Chairman Jang Bang-sik of the Association said, “Today, this event is a precious time for us to reflect on the meaning of filial piety for our elders and share our warmth with one another.” He added, “I hope that our elders will always be healthy and happy, and I will do my best to make our local community warmer and more harmonious in the future.”
At this event, the oldest senior was awarded the 'Youth Award'. The Youth Award was given in recognition of their dedication and hard work, and was given with the hope that they would remain healthy and happy.
In addition, various performances such as Korean traditional music orchestra, gayageum byeongchang, trot, saxophone, Korean dance, and assorted drums were held, providing great enjoyment to the seniors. Volunteers participated in each performance, livening up the seniors and providing them with a fun time.
Park Sang-do, the chairman of the Daejeon branch of the Korea Senior Citizens Association, said, “Filial piety is a natural law, and it is the duty of humans to respect their father and mother,” and expressed his gratitude, saying, “I am grateful for the volunteer work that the Shincheonji Volunteer Group has done over the past 10 years, and I believe that they will be a role model for the local community.”
After the event, warm galbitang was served to the attendees. The seniors had a time to share a meal together, catch up with each other, and build camaraderie.
He also said that on this day, local residents also participated in volunteer work and helped the elderly, and that it was an opportunity to expand communication and understanding between generations.
A Shincheonji Volunteer Group official said, “We prepared this event to reflect on the meaning of filial piety and express our gratitude to the elderly,” and “We will continue to provide opportunities for the elderly in the region to communicate and unite with each other in the future.”
He added, “We will do our best to grow together with the local community and provide practical help to the elderly through sustainable volunteer activities, not just one-time events.”
