“The most valuable work in the world is giving blood, because it saves lives.”

The Director of the We Are One Seoul-Gyeonggi Northern Branch spoke these words in relation to the We Are One Blood Donation Campaign, which is emerging as a new platform for 'young blood donors' to come in in the Republic of Korea.

On the 22nd November, the '2024 Blood Donation Campaign Closing Ceremony' was held at the Seoul branch of the Korean Red Cross to share the results of this year's campaign. Roughly 400 people attended the event, including the Director of the Blood Management Headquarters of the Korean Red Cross, the Directors of the Seoul Central Blood Center and Incheon Blood Center, and numerous We Are One members.

The youths of We Are One began to voluntarily roll up their sleeves in 2022, when a domestic blood supply crisis was occurring. Since that time, a total of 167,613 people have participated in blood donation over the past three years.

This year's 'We Are Red Blood Donation Campaign' resulted in a total of 52,717 people participating, giving the gift of life to 25,041 people. Moreover, in this year alone, the donors have voluntarily gifted 329.63 million KRW (c.£186,000) worth of blood donor certificates.

In her congratulatory speech, So-young Kwon, head of the Blood Management Headquarters of the Korean Red Cross, said, “All of the funds raised will be used for emergency support for the vulnerable and for life-protection projects.”

The We Are One Director said, “The blood donation campaign has become an opportunity for the blood donation culture that was previously non-existent in our society to take root.”

The Director of We Are One asked for active participation, “Next year, we will further expand our promotion and campaigns by cooperating with more local communities so that blood donation can become a natural part of the younger generation’s daily lives.”
