Shincheonji Volunteer Group Eastern Seoul Branch Conducts 'Forest Fire Prevention' Campaign at the Entrance of Suraksan Mountain
On the 13th, the Eastern Seoul Branch of the Shincheonji Volunteer Group is carrying out a forest fire prevention campaign at the entrance of Suraksan Mountain in Nowon District, Seoul. |
South Korea is no stranger to major forest fires. The damage to the earth is significant, requiring more than 100 years for the soil to recover to its original level following a major fire. The Eastern Seoul Branch of the Shincheonji Volunteer Group (hereinafter referred to as the Eastern Seoul Branch) has actively worked to raise awareness of the causes and effects of forest fire and the need for prevention by holding various forest fire campaigns in areas prone to forest fires.
On the 13th December, the Eastern Seoul Branch set up a forest fire prevention campaign booth for hikers at the entrance of Suraksan Mountain in Nowon District, Seoul.
The Eastern Seoul Branch distributed hot packs to residents they met on the hiking trail and explained the dangers of forest fires, information and necessity for forest fire prevention, the cause of forest fires and the damage caused by forest fires.
Ms. Yeon-i Im (60s, female), who stumbled upon the hiking trail, said, “It’s a shame that most forest fires are caused by hikers or burning litter,” and added, “We must strongly prohibit not only people smoking on the mountain, but also people carrying flammable materials.”
Meanwhile, the forest fire prevention campaign is held as part of the ‘Green Nature’ campaign, whose ultimate goal is to preserve a beautiful nature for posterity by carrying out wetland conservation activities, environmental cleanups to protect major facilities and cultural assets, disaster recovery activities, public awareness campaigns for environmental protection, and the creation of flower paths in waste dumping areas.
