Shincheonji Volunteer Group Namyangju Branch, 'Green Nature Carbon Neutral Campaign'
“The keychain I made is pretty. It’s good that activities that involve a lot of hand movement are more helpful than dementia tests. I hope we have more time like this.”
This is the opinion of Han Bong-seon (69 years old, female, Geumgok-dong, Namyangju-si), who participated in the Shincheonji Volunteer Group's 'Natural A Purja - Carbon Neutral Campaign'.
The Shincheonji Volunteer Group Guri Namyangju Branch (Branch Manager Kang Chang-hoon, hereinafter referred to as the Guri Namyangju Branch) held the 'Natural Child Purja-Carbon Neutral Campaign' at the Namyangju Branch of the Association for the Physically Disabled located in Geumgok-dong, Namyangju.
This carbon neutral campaign was held by the Namyangju branch of the Association for the Physically Disabled to look after our neighbors in difficult circumstances at the end of the year, and around 30 members participated.
At the event, they introduced the environmental movement 'Do you know the 4Rs (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Refuse) that suggest specific environmental protection methods that can be practiced in daily life?' and also explained the correct method for separating waste.
In addition, they opened a recycling craft class and presented specific ways to protect the environment by making keychains with eco-paper and doorbells with socks. Upcycling is a pure word for upcycling, and it is the process of adding design and usability to clothes or clothing materials that can be recycled to increase their value.
Afterwards, at the end of the year, we had a time of gift sharing to express our gratitude for the year.
Volunteer Jang Gyeong-hee said, “I had a great time spending meaningful time with the beneficiaries I became familiar with through my hairdressing service,” and “It was a time to learn about sharing love as I saw them sharing the recycled products they had experienced with difficulty with other disabled people despite their physical disabilities.”
Gang Chang-hoon, the head of the Guri Namyangju branch, said, “I am grateful that we were able to have a time of communication and cooperation with our struggling neighbors in the region through the upcycling craft class at the end of the year,” and added, “We will continue to engage in various volunteer activities for the development of the region next year as well.”
Meanwhile, 'Nature, Purja' is an activity that strives to pass on beautiful nature as a legacy to the next generation by carrying out wetland preservation, disaster recovery, environmental protection public interest campaigns, and environmental cleanup of major facilities and streets.
