On the 17th December, the Gwangju Church of the Peter Tribe of Shincheonji Church of Jesus, the Temple of the Tabernacle of the Testimony (hereinafter referred to as Shincheonji Gwangju Church) commemorated the graduation ceremony of 111,628 graduates in Gwangju City centre with a small cultural festival that carries the message of 'peace'.
Although the graduation was supposed to be held on October 30th at Peace Nuri Park in Paju City, the venue reservation was cancelled on the very day of the reserved day by the Gyeonggi Tourism Organization and Gyeonggi Provincial Governor on the pretext of posing a 'security threat'. Shincheonji Church of Jesus hurriedly wrapped up all their preparations at the Peace Nuri Park and mobilised thousands of congregants and moved to Shincheonji Cheongju Church, where the main graduation service was held. Graduation ceremonies were also held in every church in every one of the 12 tribes of Shincheonji Church of Jesus.
The Shincheonji Gwangju Church reenacted the group performance called “Blooming Peace” that took place on the day of the graduation ceremony in various locations throughout Gwangju for citizens who were unable to attend the ceremony.
This group performance, along with the 110,000 graduation ceremony, contains the meaning that religious people should stop conflict and strife and unite with each other to end wars and achieve peace.
Artists from the Shincheonji Gwangju Church, who painted themselves as soldiers, religious figures, and graduates, performed in various poses at the plaza in front of the Shincheonji Gwangju Church on November 10, and at the stairs of the National Asian Culture Center bell tower on the 17th December.
Citizens responded enthusiastically with applause and cheers when the scene of them changing from holding knives and guns pointed at each other with expressionless faces to holding flowers and smiling brightly unfolded.
