Numerous media outlets in South Korea have been reporting on the many activities conducted by Shincheonji Volunteer Group for nationwide community development, particularly during the emerging 'post-COVID' era. Most recently, Shincheonji Gwacheon Church designated the 13th and 14th May as 'Love Local Day' and encouraged members to use restaurants and go shopping in Gwacheon city, Gyeonggi province. On the day of the event, a walking banner promoting the campaign was set up so that citizens could also participate.
This campaign was prepared to support small business owners and help revitalise the local economy. On that day, about 5000 believers joined the campaign.
Jin-ah Park, a member of Shincheonji Gwacheon Church, said, “I was used to home-cooked meals after the COVID-19 pandemic, but after hearing the news of the campaign, I consciously ate out to help small business owners.”
Local businesses also responded positively to the campaign. Most of them said in unison, “We feel the vitality of Gwacheon.”
A Korean restaurant owner said, “It was very busy, but I was very happy that the commercial district was revitalised.” Another business owner said, “It feels so lively after a long time - thank you.”
The church also carried out environmental cleaning services to provide a pleasant environment for local residents to enjoy outdoor activities during the Family Month.
About 200 volunteers participated in the environmental clean-up activity 'Green Nature' on the hiking trails of Mt. Gwanak. As the risk of forest fires is expected to increase due to an increase in the number of hikers partaking in family outings and mountain climbing during the holiday season, publicity activities for the prevention of forest fires were also conducted at the same time.
An official from Shincheonji Gwacheon Church said, “The love local campaign is scheduled to be held regularly, not one-off, and the scale is also planned to increase.”
