What is the true meaning of 'the angel standing on the sea and on the land' in Revelation 10?
📰The Bible is one of the best-selling and most widely distributed books in history, yet it is also considered to be among the least understood. The Bible, which is referred to as the New Covenant and Promise of God, in which 'the way to heaven and salvation' is presented, differs in theologians' interpretations that make it difficult to understand. These differing interpretations have been the cause of the rise of denominations with each one establishing their own doctrine. With the increase in online church services and gatherings resulting from the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, there has been growing interest in the comparison of various church doctrine. This paper, therefore, attempts to provide readers with the opportunity to compare differing Biblical teachings without interpretation. Among a host of online sermons and Bible-based teachings, the contrasting doctrine between the established Church and Shincheonji Church of Jesus, which has drawn public interest throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, is hereby compared and summarised. Best efforts have been made to provide a summary of Shincheonji Church of Jesus' understanding of the Bible. Judgment as to what is right or wrong is left to the reader’s discernment.
In Revelation 1, the tabernacle of the seven golden lampstands - the Tabernacle Temple - appears to prepare the way for the Lord. However, they betrayed by breaking the covenant with God as seen in Revelation chapters 2 and 3. As a result, in Revelation 13, the beast with seven heads and ten horns that came up from the sea entered the tabernacle of heaven, and fought the believers, defeated them and took their place captive. At that time, the believers in the tabernacle who betrayed and were taken captive were marked by the beast, worshipped it, and (spiritually) perished. However, those who overcame and fled without receiving the mark were saved and stand at the sea of glass, where the throne of God is in Revelation 15; that is, the Temple of the Tabernacle of the Testimony.
First, let's find out about the sea that the angel is standing on. Among the events of war in Revelation, the sea that the angel of Revelation 10 is standing on is the sea from where the beast of Revelation 13 came out, and the sea refers to the world. In Revelation 17, we see a Prostitute riding on a scarlet beast, which is the beast with seven heads and ten horns that came up from the sea in Revelation 13.
It is also said that the Prostitute sits on many waters. This large pool of water does not refer to natural seawater, but to the peoples, multitudes, nations and languages. Who is this Prostitute? This is a false shepherd who communicates the words of untruths - lies - through fellowship with Satan's spirit. And the beast that the Prostitute is riding are false shepherds who (spiritually) kill the believers of the tabernacle who betrayed in Revelation 13 through the word of lies, meaning that the Prostitute is in charge of them. The group of people who belong to these shepherds, as well as the church as we know it today and all its congregation members, who share the same language as the nations, are called the many waters and seas. Therefore, the sea on which the angel in Revelation 10 is standing refers to the group of destroyers and their congregation members, and the world to which they belong.
So, what is the land the angel is standing on? In Revelation 13:3, the earth (land) follows and worships the beast that comes out of the sea. How could the earth follow the beast? The earth refers to the believers of the tabernacle who began to work with the Holy Spirit, but became flesh like dust and followed the beast. Therefore, the earth that the angel of Revelation 10 stands on is the tabernacle of the seven golden lampstands who betrayed.
But isn't the expression 'Angel is standing on' a bit strange? What does 'standing on' mean? Psalm 110 also reads, 'Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet'. The footstool refers to the footstool on which one's foot rests. In the same way that the generals of a victorious nation trample on the heads of the generals of a defeated nation like a footstool, the Bible says that the enemy is used as a footstool. Therefore, the words 'standing on' mean to judge.
In conclusion, the angel in Revelation 10 standing on the sea and on the land with the opened scroll is to show the judgment of the betrayers and destroyers with the opened words of Revelation.
Then why did he show all these things to John? The reason is that just as an angel stands on the sea and on the land, so John must receive and eat the opened word of the book (scroll) of Revelation and judge the betrayers and the destroyers with those words. John is commanded to preach again to many peoples, nations, languages and kings, as they had been taught only human commands, because the book was sealed.
