Who are 'Those who Pierced' the Lord in Revelation 1:7?
📰The Bible is one of the best-selling and most widely distributed books in history, yet it is also considered to be among the least understood. The Bible, which is referred to as the New Covenant and Promise of God, in which 'the way to heaven and salvation' is presented, differs in theologians' interpretations that make it difficult to understand. These differing interpretations have been the cause of the rise of denominations with each one establishing their own doctrine. With the increase in online church services and gatherings resulting from the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, there has been growing interest in the comparison of various church doctrine. This paper, therefore, attempts to provide readers with the opportunity to compare differing Biblical teachings without interpretation. Among a host of online sermons and Bible-based teachings, the contrasting doctrine between the established Church and Shincheonji Church of Jesus, which has drawn public interest throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, is hereby compared and summarised. Best efforts have been made to provide a summary of Shincheonji Church of Jesus' understanding of the Bible. Judgment as to what is right or wrong is left to the reader’s discernment.

Revelation 1:7 reads that when the Lord comes with the clouds, those who have pierced Him will also see Him. What does it mean to come with the clouds, and who are those who have pierced Him?
In the Old Testament, Isaiah 19:1 reads that God will come riding on a swift cloud. The reality of this was God coming to Jesus at the time of the first coming. In John 14:9-11, Jesus said, “Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father,” not because Jesus was the Father, but because the Father was in Jesus and did His work through Jesus. Jesus was saying that one could not see the actual Spirit of God that had descended on Jesus on a cloud, but that seeing Jesus was seeing God because God, who is Spirit, worked through Jesus.

Furthermore, in Exodus 19 and Matthew 17, a cloud accompanied the people whenever God was present. The physical Israelites and Jesus' disciples heard the voice of God from the clouds, but did not see the image of God. On the other hand, in Acts 1:9-11, it was said that when Jesus ascended to heaven, he was hidden by a cloud, and that he would come again in the same way the disciples saw him leave. From this point of view, the clouds also serve to obscure one's view. Therefore, the cloud represents an invisible spirit, and more than that, the coming of the Holy Spirit.
In 1 Peter 3:18-19, it is written that Jesus was made alive (raised) in the Spirit, and went to the imprisoned spirits to preach the gospel. In Matthew 17, at the first coming, Jesus had already revealed to his disciples how he would appear at his second coming. The transfigured body of Jesus in the clouds was that of the Holy Spirit, not the flesh. At the Second Coming of the Lord, Jesus Christ's body from 2000 years ago would never again be seen. There is someone who saw the appearance of Jesus at the second coming, and he is one of the 12 disciples, Apostle John.
The form of the Son of Man who appeared to Apostle John in Revelation 1:12-16 was also the form of the Holy Spirit. The 'someone like a son of man' who revealed himself to Apostle John is the one who rose from the dead. Moreover, in Revelation chapters 2 and 3, the Holy 'Spirit' is mentioned seven times. Therefore, at the time of the fulfilment of Revelation, Jesus comes to the promised pastor of the New Testament, who comes in the position of Apostle John. This is the promised pastor of Shincheonji.
God has chosen one shepherd (pastor) in every era, appearing to that shepherd alone in order to give him the word to testify (preach). In the days of Adam, Noah, after Noah and Moses, God appeared only to these people and allowed them to testify the Word. Even at the time of Jesus' first coming, God only appeared to Jesus, was with Jesus, and allowed Jesus to testify the word. In the same way, at the time of the fulfilment of Revelation at the Second Coming of the Lord, Jesus appears only to new John, who comes in the position of Apostle John and is not Apostle John. Jesus shows the fulfilled realities of the Book of Revelation to the promised pastor of the New Testament, and has him testify it.
Who pierced Jesus at the Second Coming of the Lord? In John 14:9-10, Jesus said that those who saw him had seen the Father. To see Jesus, whom God was with, was to see God. Also, in John 15:18-23, Jesus said that when the world hates you, you must know that it hated Jesus before you, and that whoever hates him hates his Father. At the first coming, there was only one person in this world who was with God - Jesus. Therefore, hating Jesus, whom God was with, is no different to hating God, and persecuting the disciples who followed Jesus was the same as persecuting Jesus.
In John 14:16-17, Jesus said that God would send another Counsellor (Advocate), the Spirit of Truth, that the world would neither see nor know, but 'you' would know because he lives with you and will be in you. Therefore, in John 14:26, the Counsellor, the Spirit of truth, who comes in the name of Jesus, dwells with 'you', so piercing the 'you' who is with the Spirit of truth, means to pierce Jesus.
In Revelation 22:16, Jesus said that He has sent his angel to testify these things to the churches. Therefore, the Spirit of truth that Jesus sent to the churches is with the promised pastor of Shincheonji who testifies the fulfilled realities of the prophecies of Revelation. That is why piercing the promised pastor of Shincheonji is the same as piercing Jesus. At the time of the fulfilment of Revelation, Revelation 11:3~4 reads that there are two witnesses who serve the Lord of all the earth. It is those who pierce the two witnesses serving the Lord who become those who pierce Jesus.

The piercing of Jesus is a universal expression for those who betrayed Him. It's not just the Roman soldiers. If you limit your understanding to the Roman soldiers, you're making a big mistake. It's said that 'those who pierced him will also see', describing those who reject, persecute, and oppose Jesus Christ today. The Second Coming does not come only to those who believe."
