Where is Mount Zion in Revelation 14?
📰The Bible is one of the best-selling and most widely distributed books in history, yet it is also considered to be among the least understood. The Bible, which is referred to as the New Covenant and Promise of God, in which 'the way to heaven and salvation' is presented, differs in theologians' interpretations that make it difficult to understand. These differing interpretations have been the cause of the rise of denominations with each one establishing their own doctrine. With the increase in online church services and gatherings resulting from the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, there has been growing interest in the comparison of various church doctrine. This paper, therefore, attempts to provide readers with the opportunity to compare differing Biblical teachings without interpretation. Among a host of online sermons and Bible-based teachings, the contrasting doctrine between the established Church and Shincheonji Church of Jesus, which has drawn public interest throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, is hereby compared and summarised. Best efforts have been made to provide a summary of Shincheonji Church of Jesus' understanding of the Bible. Judgment as to what is right or wrong is left to the reader’s discernment.
In brief, Mount Zion is the tabernacle of the chosen people which is figuratively likened to the physical Mount Zion and to God's chosen people's tabernacle.
Let's begin with the historical origins of Mount Zion. Mount Zion is a mountain situated roughly 800m above sea level in Jerusalem, the capital of Israel. It was the place where Abraham, Isaac and Jacob lived. Moreover, after David fought against the Gentile Jebusites who were living in Jerusalem, David captured the fortress of Zion to build a royal palace there (2 Sam. 5:6-7). Zion, therefore, became the religious heart of Israel. Together with Jerusalem, it became a symbol of the chosen people and the place where God dwelt.
When the reality of Mount Zion appeared at the time of the first coming, God came neither to the physical Mount Zion, nor to the temple in Jerusalem, but to Jesus (John 2:19-21), who fought and overcame the corrupt Pharisees and scribes (John 16:33). The reality of Zion was Jesus, and the people who received salvation after hearing the word of Jesus were also Zion, and the tabernacle (temple) where the chosen people had gathered became the reality of Mount Zion at the first coming. Therefore, among the many churches, spiritual Mount Zion is the place where God is with Jesus and where Jesus resides.
Let's look at the reality of Mount Zion at the time of the Lord's Second Coming today. Isaiah 2:2-3 says that in the last days the mountain of the temple of the Lord will stand firmly on top of all mountains, and all nations will gather there. The reason is said to be because the law comes from Zion, and the word of the Lord comes from Jerusalem. Therefore, we can see that Mount Zion mentioned in Revelation is not a physical mountain.
As you can see from the content in Revelation 2~3, after the seven messengers betrayed, and the beast with seven heads and ten horns - that is, the destroyer - appeared in the betrayed tabernacle of heaven in Revelation 13 to destroy them, the one who overcomes in Revelation 15 fought and overcame this destroyer. After those who fought and overcame gathered by the sea of glass in front of God's throne, Mount Zion in Revelation 14 was established. Therefore, during the fulfilment of the book of Revelation, the promised pastor - who fought and overcame the gentile beast-like destroyer after it destroyed God's chosen tabernacle that betrayed - together with the 12 tribes become Zion. The place where the promised pastor and the 12 tribes are gathered is called Mount Zion.
Therefore, Mount Zion in Revelation 14 is where God, Jesus and the heavenly throne of the spiritual realm are gathered, together with the 144,000 firstfruits of the harvest who testify the new song, which is the reality of the fulfilment of Revelation. These are the priests of the new kingdom who have been sealed with the new covenant. In other words, as seen in Revelation 3:12, the 144,000 and the 12 tribes gather around the Promised Pastor - the one who overcomes - with God, Jesus and Heaven. The way to be saved is to come to Mt. Zion and become a member of the 12 tribes by hearing the testimony of the promised pastor of New Heaven New Earth, who testifies to everything he has seen and heard.
"In the future, people living in the sea will have to build homes nearer the mountain. Since global warming is expected to increase in the future, the waves will become stronger and sea levels will rise. As the water temperature rises, the sea becomes even rougher. So living on the beach is not a very good idea for the future.
If the problems of global warming and environmental pollution are resolved, we can head to the seaside and live there, otherwise we must live on Mount Zion. You have to climb the mountain and live on it."
Pastor B of the Presbyterian Church
"In Rev. 14, first there is the rapture of the firstfruits. John sees the Lamb standing on Mount Zion. This Lamb is our Lord Jesus Christ. No one can be called the Lamb except the Lord Jesus. However, Mount Zion here is not Mount Zion on the earth, but Mount Zion in heaven."
