What is the True Meaning of an 'Idol' Recorded by the Old Testament Prophets and in the New Testament?
On 5th May 2021, Cheonji Ilbo (Cheonji Daily) published an article, in Korean, entitled, “What is the True Meaning of an 'Idol' Recorded by the Old Testament Prophets and in the New Testament?" This is a translation of that report.

📰The Bible is one of the best-selling and most widely distributed books in history, yet it is also considered to be among the least understood. The Bible, which is referred to as the New Covenant and Promise of God, in which 'the way to heaven and salvation' is presented, differs in theologians' interpretations that make it difficult to understand. These differing interpretations have been the cause of the rise of denominations with each one establishing their own doctrine. With the increase in online church services and gatherings resulting from the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, there has been growing interest in the comparison of various church doctrine. This paper, therefore, attempts to provide readers with the opportunity to compare differing Biblical teachings without interpretation. Among a host of online sermons and Bible-based teachings, the contrasting doctrine between the established Church and Shincheonji Church of Jesus, which has drawn public interest throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, is hereby compared and summarised. Best efforts have been made to provide a summary of Shincheonji Church of Jesus' understanding of the Bible. Judgment as to what is right or wrong is left to the reader’s discernment.
First, let's look at an 'idol' in the books of the prophets. In Habakkuk 2:18, it is written that an idol created is a false teacher. Idols may form the shape of a person, but they are nothing more than objects made by people which cannot speak or move. Likewise, false teachers and false pastors who were established by people other than God, are likened to idols because they cannot testify the word of God. Listening to and believing in a false pastor is equivalent to worshipping an idol.
At the first coming 2000 years ago, the realities of the spiritual idols were the scribes and Pharisees who were the religious leaders of Judaism at that time. Under them were denominations including the Essenes and Sadducees, each with their different doctrine united to form one body. They had the appearance of God's pastors, but in reality had become one with the devil, as is written in John 8:44. As written in Matthew 23, they sat in the seat of Moses and took Jerusalem spiritually hostage, teaching the devil's lies in Jerusalem. They killed the spirits of God's chosen people and their organisation was a spiritual idol of spiritual Babylon.
On the other hand, in 1 Peter 2:4, Jesus is the precious living stone, and in Matthew 21 it is written that those who fall on this stone will be broken into pieces, and anyone on whom this stone falls will be crushed and scattered. This means that the stone which struck at the time of the first coming was Jesus himself. With the word of judgment, Jesus judged false pastors - idols, who were the chief scribes and Pharisees. In this way, we can realise how the prophecy in Daniel 2 was fulfilled at the first coming.
For us living in the Second Coming, it is more important to know what happens at this time of the Second Coming. The words in Matthew 24:15, which records events at the time of the Lord's Second Coming, speak of the abomination of destruction - as was spoken through the prophet Daniel - standing in the holy place. Those who understand the prophecy in the book of Daniel will understand and flee to the mountains. It can be seen that this abomination of destruction - that is, an idol - will appear even at the Second Coming.
Let's examine the reality of this idol in the book of Revelation. The Great Prostitute in Revelation chapter 17 is riding a beast with seven heads and ten horns, which means that this prostitute is in charge. The name written on the forehead of the Prostitute is 'Babylon the Great'. This means that the Prostitute that appears at the Second Coming is spiritual Babylon, and the beast with seven heads and ten horns on which the Prostitute sits is an organisation that belongs to Babylon. Who are their realities?
In Revelation chapter 18, they deceive the nations with the wine of adultery, which is untruth. Even in the end times, the whole world is captured by the false pastors of Babylon. At this time, as promised in the words of Revelation 12, the one who fights and overcomes with the blood of Jesus and the words of testimony, is given a white stone, which is the word of judgment, by Jesus, as promised in Revelation 2:17.
Therefore, just as Jesus created a new kingdom with the stone of the Word after judging the Pharisees, which was the organisation of spiritual idols, the one who overcomes receives the white stone to judge the spiritual Babylonian Prostitute and his seven heads at the Second Coming when the Book of Revelation is fulfilled. By putting an end to the idolatrous organisation of the beast with ten horns, he creates God's eternal kingdom and the 12 tribes of spiritual new Israel. This kingdom is eternal and its power will never be passed on to another.

The pure gold head refers to the historical nation of Babylon, the silver chest refers to Mede and Persia, and the bronze refers to Alexander the Great of Greece. What is the iron? It is Rome that rises and conquers the world. The ten toes were still connected to the two legs. What does that mean? In the Eastern and Western Roman Empire, it was said that ten nations would be united in the future.
