What are the 'Dry Bones' and the 'Resurrection' in Ezekiel 37?
📰The Bible is one of the best-selling and most widely distributed books in history, yet it is also considered to be among the least understood. The Bible, which is referred to as the New Covenant and Promise of God, in which 'the way to heaven and salvation' is presented, differs in theologians' interpretations that make it difficult to understand. These differing interpretations have been the cause of the rise of denominations with each one establishing their own doctrine. With the increase in online church services and gatherings resulting from the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, there has been growing interest in the comparison of various church doctrine. This paper, therefore, attempts to provide readers with the opportunity to compare differing Biblical teachings without interpretation. Among a host of online sermons and Bible-based teachings, the contrasting doctrine between the established Church and Shincheonji Church of Jesus, which has drawn public interest throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, is hereby compared and summarised. Best efforts have been made to provide a summary of Shincheonji Church of Jesus' understanding of the Bible. Judgment as to what is right or wrong is left to the reader’s discernment.
In Ezekiel 37:11, the bones in the graves were not physical bones. They represented the entire people of Israel at the first coming, and the graves with bones represented Jerusalem, where the chosen people of Israel resided. The scribes and Pharisees who had captured Jerusalem were called whitewashed tombs, snakes, and vipers by Jesus. These words meant that the spirit of people died from eating the venom (poison) of the serpent, which is Satan's fruit.
Who came as the reality of prophet Ezekiel recorded in Ezekiel 37? It was Jesus Christ, who came in the position of Ezekiel. In John 5, Jesus said that whoever heard his words and believed in God who sent him had passed over from death to life.
What is 'resurrection' in the Bible? Resurrection means to come back to life from death. Physical resurrection took place through the resurrection of Lazarus' dead body. Spiritual resurrection is when the body (flesh) is alive, and one's spirit, which is dead, comes back to life. To say that the spirit is dead means that there is no spiritual life, no word of God. According to the prophecy in Ezekiel 37, the dead bodies seemed to come to life, but according to the fulfilment recorded in John 5, it was the spirit, and not the body, that came to life. That is why, in John 6:63, Jesus said, "The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you - they are full of the spirit and life."
Moreover, regarding the prophetic word of the Spirit being poured out on those who rise from the grave, its reality was the Holy Spirit being poured out on those who came out of the tomb of Jerusalem at the first coming. This is the process of prophecy, and the fulfilment of prophecy.
Let's find out who the dry bones are today, and how the resurrection works.
God and Jesus prophesied the New Testament and have fulfilled its prophecies, and Apostle John is the one who recorded the vision according to what he saw and heard. When the New Testament is fulfilled, it is 'new John' who becomes the witness who testifies to everything he saw and heard at the location of the events recorded in the Book of Revelation. When the Book of Revelation begins to be fulfilled, as recorded in 2 Thessalonians 2:1-4, it is firstly the chosen people who betray, and then the destroyer who appears to bring these chosen people to an end. The tabernacle of the seven golden lampstands, who were God's chosen people, appeared, and Satan's shepherd (pastor), that is, the beast with seven heads and ten horns, came in and made the tabernacle worship false gods, eat food sacrificed to idols, commit adultery and receive the mark of the beast.
It is also said that all nations have fallen to Babylon. This means that the entire world has become part of Babylon, part of Satan. In Revelation 18, the voice from heaven shouts to those held captive in Babylon, “Come out of her, my people", and for them to flee to Zion. Revelation 17:14 says that those who overcome the deception and come out are faithful.
In the same way that those who heard the words of Jesus and believed in God who sent him would inherit life at the first coming (John 5:24), those who hear the words today of the messenger whom Jesus has sent regarding everything he has seen and heard (witnessed) at the location of Revelation's fulfilment, and believe, can receive life.
Revelation 15:2 says that those who had been victorious over the beast, and its image and over the number of its name, gather by the sea of glass in front of the throne of God. In verse 5, this place is called the Temple of the Tabernacle of the Testimony, and it is called the place where all nations will come and worship. Moving from Babylon to the Temple of the Tabernacle of the Testimony is moving from death to life, and this is the resurrection of the spirit (spiritual resurrection). Those who did not receive the mark on their foreheads and on their hands from the Dragon's False Pastor, and those who did not worship the beast, will participate in the first resurrection together with the martyrs.
Pastor A of the Evangelical Holiness Church
"The content of this story (Ezekiel 37) appears in two ways. On the one hand, it is about one's own personal resurrection. The individual can rise to life on resurrection day. It is a story that everyone will come back to life. On the other, it is about collective resurrection of this country.
Israel and its people have fallen, but even if all the people of the earth die, if God breathes life into them again, they can come back to life. Our country is in a very difficult position right now, but if God speaks, our country can be revived as a unified nation. This is what gives us hope."
Pastor B of the Presbyterian Church
It is difficult to find a balanced reasoning in Korea. Let me tell you this: intellect has lost all rationale. In addition, people do not have their emotions in check, and many people are angry and frustrated. There are many young people lost in the Valley of Despair. It's ludicrous.
And our society is dominated by atheism. The characteristic of an atheistic society is that individual rights are absolute and the sense of community is weakened. When you show off your cool or criticise others for their shortcomings, dry bones pile up in the valley one- by-one. In this regard, there are a lot of people around us who carry dry bones like in the mountains."
