What is the 'New Thing' in Jeremiah 31:22?
📰The Bible is one of the best-selling and most widely distributed books in history, yet it is also considered to be among the least understood. The Bible, which is referred to as the New Covenant and Promise of God, in which 'the way to heaven and salvation' is presented, differs in theologians' interpretations that make it difficult to understand. These differing interpretations have been the cause of the rise of denominations with each one establishing their own doctrine. With the increase in online church services and gatherings resulting from the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, there has been growing interest in the comparison of various church doctrine. This paper, therefore, attempts to provide readers with the opportunity to compare differing Biblical teachings without interpretation. Among a host of online sermons and Bible-based teachings, the contrasting doctrine between the established Church and Shincheonji Church of Jesus, which has drawn public interest throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, is hereby compared and summarised. Best efforts have been made to provide a summary of Shincheonji Church of Jesus' understanding of the Bible. Judgment as to what is right or wrong is left to the reader’s discernment.
"The 'new thing' is the seed of the spirit, which is God's seed and not the physical seed of a sinner, through which God's kingdom is created"

The book of Jeremiah is a book of prophecy written about 2600 years ago through the prophet Jeremiah. God revealed His mysteries to the prophets and made them record future events that would be fulfilled. In Jeremiah 31:22, God created a 'new thing', which is a woman embracing a man. What is this 'new thing' recorded in the Bible, and how was the prophecy of a woman embracing a man fulfilled? Why is it written that it was 'new' for a woman to embrace a man?
First, let's look at the background of the promise of this new work through history.
God chose Adam and made a covenant with him, but Adam broke this covenant with God. After that, God appointed righteous Noah and judged the sinful world of Adam through a flood. However, Noah's world also broke the covenant and sinned, so God came to Abraham and promised through Abraham that Abraham's descendants would, in the future, become foreigners living among Gentiles (non-believers) whom they would serve as slaves for 400 years before departing and entering the land of Canaan. This promise was fulfilled when the land of Canaan, which is the descendants (world) of Noah who sinned, was conquered and subdued by Abraham's descendants Moses and Joshua.
After that, Israel who had entered the land of Canaan lived through the era of Judges and the era of Kings. However, as Solomon, the son of David, forsook God and worshipped foreign gods, he broke the covenant made with God, like Adam. As a result, Israel became a Gentile nation and was destroyed.
God tried in various ways to free Israel from sin, and even gave the law for them to keep, yet sin remained. That is why God promised a 'new thing' through the prophet Jeremiah.
When and how was this 'new thing' accomplished? The words of this prophecy were spread for about 600 years and were then fulfilled at the first coming. The words of a woman embracing a man were fulfilled by Jesus who was born of the virgin Mary and conceived by the seed of the Holy Spirit. Through Jesus, the new gospel - that is, the fulfilment of the Old Testament - was preached, not the Law of Moses.
Why was the virgin Mary giving birth to Jesus a 'new thing'? Jesus was not born of the physical seed of the sinner Adam, but from the seed of God's Spirit as the Son of God. The birth of Jesus heralded the beginning of spiritual Israel as those born of the spiritual seed. From that time on, those who were born of the spiritual seed - that is, the seed of God's word, and not those born of the sinful physical seed that sinned - received the right to become God's children. Spiritual Israel was created through those born of God's seed.
In other words, the reason why it was a 'new thing' is because the era of physical Israel came to an end and the era of spiritual Israel began. Furthermore, Jeremiah 31:27 prophesied that two kinds of seed would be sown at the first coming; the good seed was sown through Jesus, and the seed of the beast - that is, the devil's seed - was sown through the serpent-like Pharisee pastors of the time. Jesus promised that, after the seed (word) of the gospel of heaven was spread throughout the world, he would return to carry out the work of harvest. Today, which is about 2,000 years since the seed was sown, Jesus has come to the promised shepherd (pastor) and carried out the work of harvest.

The 12 tribes were established by harvesting the elect from the east, west, north and south, and sealing them with the promised word of revelation (revealed word). After that, the multitude in white whose robes have been washed, and sins atoned by Jesus' blood, are gathered from every nation and made into the children of God. They are the 12 tribes of Shincheonji, the new kingdom and new people of God. The creation of these 12 tribes is the completion of the 'new thing' recorded through the prophet Jeremiah. This has been the will and purpose of God and what He has been working for for 6,000 years.
"The 'new thing' is the return of prisoners of war embraced by their mothers. This becomes the mother's new role"
Korean Church
"Jeremiah 31:22 says that the LORD will create a 'new thing' in the world: a woman will embrace a man. What does it mean that this woman will embrace a man? The mother saw her child being dragged by chains from behind, weeping and despairing that she would never see her child again. Now that her child must return, the day will come when the mother will embrace him. Where else could there be a new creation than this? Where is there life in such a great war like this, that the day would come when they would be able to hold their child again to those who, in despair, previously thought it an impossibility? With God, anything is possible."
Pastor B of the Presbyterian Church
"A 'new thing' is a woman hugging a man. The reason this is referred to as a 'new thing' is because, in the general context of that time, a man would hug a woman, but now the opposite would occur."
