[Cheonji Ilbo = Correspondent Hyeon-bok Lee] On the 25th, Shincheonji Church of Jesus Chungju Church Philip (tribe) held a campaign to revive the traditional market affected by the depressed local economy.
In this campaign, about 200 members of Shincheonji Chungju Church brought self-made shopping bags to Mugeuk Market (Geumwang-eup, Eumseong district) on the 5th, and had time to engage in dialogue with market traders while purchasing and using necessary items.
Along with this, a PR booth was installed to provide unbiased information about Shincheonji Church, and warm tea and hot packs were distributed to market traders and citizens, who provided a great response.
Hye-ran Oh (pseudonym), a market trader who sells blankets at Mugeuk 5-Day Market, said, “It's unfortunate that Shincheonji Church is the subject of misunderstanding.”
In addition, market trader C expressed his gratitude, saying, “I'm grateful you gave us, market traders, warm tea on a cold day, and I thank you for buying lots of goods.”
Su-jeong Kim (pseudonym), a member of Shincheonji Chungju Church who participated in the market revival campaign, said, “It was heart-warming to see the market traders welcoming and thanking us - thank you.”
An official from Shincheonji Chungju Church said, “We will do our best to revitalise the local economy through continuous shopping campaigns, and furthermore, we will do our best to become a church that society needs through consistent communication and interaction with the community.”
