Shincheonji Youth Volunteer Group 'We Are One' steps in to provide disaster relief operations amid torrential rains in Korea
On 10th August, the Seoul-Gyeonggi branch of Shincheonji's 'We Are One' Youth Volunteer Group stepped in to provide relief operations in the wake of torrential rains in and around Seoul, Gyeonggi Province, Seongnam, Gwangju, Yeoju and Ansan.
On the 15th, a house in Sanbuk-myeon, Yeoju city, Gyeonggi province was flooded with dirt and waste following the collapse of a nearby mountain during a torrential downpour that saw nearly 50cm of heavy rain.
Volunteers discarded the waste with hands and a shovel in humid temperatures that exceeded 30°C. A car parked in the driveway had been crushed by a huge pile of dirt. Its scrapping is inevitable.
On the 16th, an underground farmhouse situated in Palgok-dong, Sangnok city, Ansan city, Gyeonggi province was pounded by heavy rain that left broken plastic, fallen trees and waste. The searing heat left a stench.
Volunteers carried damaged furniture out of the underground farmhouse. Trees and waste that were entwined in the farm were also separated and arranged one by one. Residents expressed their gratitude to volunteers, saying, “Thank you for completing this job, which would have taken two days, in just one day.”
Disaster recovery for flooded homes is expected to last until the 20th.
The 'We Are One' Shincheonji Youth Volunteer Group consists of 90,000 Korean and foreign youth members who belong to Shincheonji Church of Jesus (70,000 domestic and 20,000 overseas), spread across 12 branches in Korea and youth from 75 countries, including the United States and the United Kingdom. The objective of this group is to solve domestic challenges and global crises centred on ▲creation of a sustainable environment ▲world peace movement ▲world peace education. The 'We Are One' Shincheonji Youth Volunteer Group is expected to engage in an unprecedented blood drive by 70,000 volunteers from the 26th onwards.
