Launch of the 90,000-strong Shincheonji Youth Volunteer Group, 'We Are One': “Leading the Resolution of a Global Crisis”
[Cheonji Ilbo = Reporters Bo-young Hong and Jae-bin Lee] “We will take the lead in resolving national challenges and global crises through youth networks.”
Shincheonji Church of Jesus, the Temple of the Tabernacle of the Testimony (Shincheonji Church of Jesus) has launched the youth volunteer group 'We Are One', with a membership of 90,000, and will engage in volunteer work in the environmental, peace and educational fields.
On that day, at the same time as the organisation was launched, an announcement was made that 70,000 members would be donating blood next month.
On the 30th, Shincheonji Church of Jesus held an Inauguration ceremony for the Youth Volunteer Group 'We Are One' at The-K Hotel Convention Center in Seoul with about 1,000 representatives of the volunteer group and people from all walks of life in attendance. The 90,000 volunteers who were unable to attend the Inauguration in-person participated via a live broadcast.
There are many volunteer groups within the religious community. However, the organisational power of Shincheonji Church of Jesus is significant, and it is expected that their activities will have a major ripple effect in the future.
The 'We Are One' volunteer group consists of 90,000 Korean and foreign youth members who belong to Shincheonji Church of Jesus (70,000 domestic and 20,000 overseas), spread across 12 branches in Korea and youth from 75 countries, including the United States and the United Kingdom. In order to repay the grace of life they have received from God and Jesus, they aim to realise the biblical values of truth, love, and peace.
From the 27th of next month, they plan to conduct life-sharing volunteer work over the course of three months with an unprecedented blood donation by 70,000 volunteers at blood centres located in 17 metropolitan governments, including Seoul and Busan.
This figure will set a new record for Shincheonji Church, which helped solve the blood crisis by making the largest donation by any organisation anywhere (18,819 donors) from April 18 to May 4.
Furthermore, the objective of this group is to solve domestic challenges and global crises centred on ▲creation of a sustainable environment ▲world peace movement ▲world peace education.
In his inauguration speech, Chairman Man-hee Lee said, “I believe that if many young people join hands with the world and do not turn to corrupt ways, but serve humanity and go to the light, many other people will imitate and join them. Let's work together to make a better country. I hope that the 'We Are One' voluntary group will fulfil its mission. I believe in you.”
Jae-yong Um, director of the Seoul Southern Blood Center of the Korean Red Cross, delivered a congratulatory address, saying, “(The opening ceremony) is incredible. I am deeply moved being here.” He expressed his gratitude to Shincheonji Church for having donated blood and plasma in such a short period of time.
He added, “The participation of 70,000 members of Shincheonji Church of Jesus in donating blood, together with today’s Inauguration ceremony, is expected to be of great help in dealing with the recent re-surge of Coronavirus and an infectious disease crisis that may occur during the summer and Chuseok holidays. It serves as an opportunity and the driving force to overcome the blood crisis that continually repeats itself.”
Jin-suk Yang, head of the General Assembly of Shincheonji Church of Jesus, also delivered a congratulatory speech, saying, “Sacrifice without asking for anything in return, like the light, rain and air of heaven, is the spirit of service taught by the (Shincheonji) chairman.” “(Shincheonji) Youth have been with us whenever disasters and calamities occur,” he said.
