Shincheonji Youth Volunteer Group 'We Are One' (Yangpyeong Branch) conducts four-day flood recovery service
[Cheonji Ilbo = Reporter Hyun-bok Lee] The Yangpyeong Branch of Shincheonji Volunteer Group and the Yangpyeong Branch of Shincheonji Youth Volunteer Group 'We Are One' carried out flood recovery services in Gangha-myeon Hangyum area in Yangpyeong district, which had been severely flooded four times from the 12th to the 16th.
For this volunteer activity, two volunteer groups from Shincheonji joined together and a total of 40 people participated to carry out intensive restoration of a factory, office, underground warehouse and house in the surrounding area.
A stationery factory in Hangyeum, Yangpyeong district, where the volunteer work was conducted, was filled with trees and soil that had fallen sideways due to landslides caused by heavy rains.
A vehicle parked in the yard was also found in the valley after all the overflowing water was drained, but its scrapping was inevitable. Volunteers who saw this carried water and mud one by one from the flooding site, where the water was waist-deep, and worked hard to restore the electrical wiring.
Mr. K, a beneficiary of the flood recovery service, said, “At first, I was so engrossed in water that I couldn't move, so I panicked and was exhausted. I was so grateful when many helping hands came to assist. As I received help when I was in a difficult and desolate situation, I have to live my life by repaying this grace.”
A Shincheonji Volunteer official said, “It's tragic to see the residents suffering from unexpected heavy rains.”
Meanwhile, the largest youth volunteer group in Korea, 'We Are One', was launched at the end of July, and is scheduled to make an unprecedented 70,000 blood donations for a group blood drive which will include the participation of the Yangpyeong branch.
