Numerous media outlets in South Korea have been reporting on the many activities conducted by Shincheonji Volunteer Group for nationwide community development, particularly during the emerging 'post-COVID' era. Most recently, on the 26th May, a certificate of appreciation ceremony was held at the office of the Korean War Veterans Association (Ansan city, Gyeonggi Branch) in Ansan city, Gyeonggi province. Shincheonji Volunteer Group Ansan branch (Director Chang-deok Koh) received a certificate of appreciation from the Korean War Veterans Association (Ansan city, Gyeonggi Branch).

The delivery of the certificate of appreciation on that day was made as an expression of deep gratitude for their faithful service to the Korean War Veterans Association events and volunteer work over the years, while officials from both organisations gathered and had a warm discussion.

An official of the Korean War Veterans Association said, “We're deeply grateful for the contribution made to the development of the local community through the spirit of sacrifice and service.”

Chang-deok Koh, head of the Ansan branch of Shincheonji Volunteer Group, who received the certificate of appreciation, said, “Compared to the individuals who sacrificed their lives for the country, the part we play is minor.”

Meanwhile, the Ansan branch of Shincheonji Volunteer Group is conducting various events and volunteer services, such as COVID-19 sanitisation and disinfection, hair and beauty care, and donations of companion plants to the Korean War Veterans Association.

Most recently, from May 11th to 26th, Shincheonji Volunteer Group Donghae Branch (Director Chan-yong Park) carried out its 'Wall Story' project in Bugok neighbourhood, Donghae city, Gangwon province, and received a great response from local residents.

Shincheonji Volunteer Group's 'Wall Story' is an urban regeneration project that restores dilapidated murals through drawings and paintings, depicting characteristics specific to local regions and the stories of local residents on murals. The themes and pictures designed on the murals are decorated at the request of the beneficiaries.

'Wall Story', in its 10th year, under the theme of 'One', is a project that breaks down the barriers of societal conflict within class, gender, religion, and politics, and unites minds for community development.

The central theme of the wall story conducted by Shincheonji Volunteer Group Donghae this time is a dreaming whale, and the mural was completed in cooperation with residents in the hope that each family's hopes will come true and it will become a good neighbourhood to live in. Individuals from a wide spectrum of society, including journalists, heads of social organisations, city council members and local residents were invited on site to view the completed work, grow in understanding and communication of the other and spend time uniting hearts.

A regular volunteer who participated in the mural service said, “I'm grateful I could put my skills to use for the community, and I was really touched to see the positive reaction of the older members of the village to the mural paintings.”

The foreman of the village who helped in the construction of the wall said, “Looking at the fish, symbolic of prosperity, swimming together with the whale, I feel like I've received a great blessing.”

Meanwhile, the Donghae branch of Shincheonji Volunteer Group continues to provide various community services, including donating goods to Bugok and Samhwa-neighbourhood Administrative Welfare Centres every month through the 'Good Donation, Good Consumption Campaign', 'More the Better' project to promote emotional wellbeing through sharing companion plants, 'Visiting Health Doctor' service for the medically vulnerable and 'Love Your Country, Peace Sharing' activity for the common realisation of peace.
