[Cheonji Ilbo = Reporter Hyeji Lim] The youth volunteer group We Are One (Director Junsu Hong) of 'Shincheonji Church of Jesus, the Temple of the Tabernacle of the Testimony (Shincheonji Church of Jesus)' has been donating blood since the 27th of last month to solve the blood crisis in South Korea. It has been announced that 39,350 youth members have now made a complete blood donation. To date, a total of 54,010 blood donors have given blood since the launch of the campaign, which marks the highest number of blood donations by any single group or organisation in Korea.
We Are One has been conducting its 'Live ON Youth ON Blood Donation Campaign' since the 27th of last month to solve the national blood crisis resulting from the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic. The We Are One blood donation campaign, which is being held at blood centres located in 17 administrative divisions across Korea, aims to achieve a target of 70,000 complete blood donations in Korea alone.
40,000 people successfully donating blood in just one month sets a record for the highest blood donation in Korea.
A representative of We Are One, who is in charge of planning the blood donation campaign, said, “We operated efficiently according to the schedule of our members and the circumstances of each blood centre and donated blood quickly given the summer holidays and Chuseok holidays. This is how we were able to make 40,000 blood donations.”
We Are One plans to continue donating blood until November to solve the national blood crisis that has resulted from the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.
In a climate where the number of young people donating blood is significantly reduced in the summer and winter months, if the target of 70,000 complete blood donations is achieved as planned, then the domestic blood supply is expected to remain stable until the end of this year.
We Are One Director Junsu Hong said, “The COVID-19 pandemic has begun to ease, but we are not fully out of this situation.”
We Are One was launched on July 30th with a total of 90,000 youth members - 70,000 domestically and 20,000 overseas. At the inauguration ceremony, Director Hong said, “As the name 'We Are One' infers, this group was launched with the purpose of being able to contribute in every way and to setting a good example to the world as youth globally become one.” He said, “We started thinking that the most valuable act to save life is giving our blood.”
Ki-hong Park, director of blood donation at the Korean Red Cross Blood Management Headquarters, said, “I am very grateful to Shincheonji Church for holding such a large-scale blood donation campaign at the beginning of this most difficult time.”
He also said, “(The target of 70,000) in itself is a huge and unimaginable effort, not only in our country but also globally.”
