What is the 'Sword of My Mouth' in Revelation 2?

📰The Bible is one of the best-selling and most widely distributed books in history, yet it is also considered to be among the least understood. The Bible, which is referred to as the New Covenant and Promise of God, in which 'the way to heaven and salvation' is presented, differs in theologians' interpretations that make it difficult to understand. These differing interpretations have been the cause of the rise of denominations with each one establishing their own doctrine. With the increase in online church services and gatherings resulting from the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, there has been growing interest in the comparison of various church doctrine. This paper, therefore, attempts to provide readers with the opportunity to compare differing Biblical teachings without interpretation. Among a host of online sermons and Bible-based teachings, the contrasting doctrine between the established Church and Shincheonji Church of Jesus, which has drawn public interest throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, is hereby compared and summarised. Best efforts have been made to provide a summary of Shincheonji Church of Jesus' understanding of the Bible. Judgment as to what is right or wrong is left to the reader’s discernment.

In summary, the word of repentance that comes out of Jesus' mouth in Revelation 2:16 refers to Jesus' word of judgment that judges the chosen people who betray at the Second Coming of the Lord.

In physical warfare, weapons such as swords, bows, and iron bars are used to capture and kill people. There are physical swords in the Bible, but there are also spiritual swords that are likened to these physical swords.

In Revelation 1:12 and on, there is someone like the Son of Man who walks among the seven golden lampstands, dressed in a robe reaching down to his feet, with a golden sash around his chest, and the hair on his head is white like wool and as white as snow, and his eyes are like blazing fire. Moreover, his feet are like bronze glowing in a furnace, his voice is like the sound of many waters, in his right hand are seven stars, coming out of his mouth is a sharp double-edged sword, and his face is like the sun shining in all its brilliance. Let's draw this image through a picture. Is this the image of Jesus we have been waiting so long for? Isn't it frightening?

This image is not the image of Jesus in his physical body, but the image of the transfigured spiritual body of Jesus. Then we can understand that the double-edged sword coming out of Jesus' mouth is not a physical sword, but a spiritual sword.

There is no doubt that Jesus spoke in parables. In Matthew 13, Jesus spoke about the secrets of the kingdom of heaven in parables, and in John 16:25, he said that he would testify plainly at an appointed time.

Let's look at a parable about a sword that Jesus spoke of at the first coming. Jesus said in Matthew 10:34, "Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword."

Did Jesus give a literal, physical sword to separate a man from his father, a daughter from her mother, and a daughter-in-law from her mother-in-law? Is Jesus in the business of trading with swords? This is not a physical sword.

Furthermore, in Ephesians 6:10-17, in order to overcome the powers and spiritual forces of this dark world, we are told to 'Put on the full armour of God', 'Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God'. Therefore, it can be seen that the sword that comes out of the mouth of Jesus is God's word of judgment. This word is the weapon to fight and overcome evil spirits and false pastors.

Hebrews 4:12 says, 'The word of God is alive and active, sharper than any double-edged sword.' It is not a physical sword that pierces our soul and spirit, but the Word of God that can transform our hearts.

Revelation 19:15 also says that a sharp sword will come out of the mouth of Jesus and that sword will strike all nations. This means that all nations will be judged with the word of God's truth that comes out of Jesus' mouth.

In Revelation 2:16, the saying, 'I will fight against them with the sword of my mouth', refers to the judgment of the seven angels of the tabernacle of the seven golden lampstands that were at work in the right hand of Jesus at the Second Coming of the Lord. Why should they be judged? They ate food sacrificed to idols in Revelation chapters 2 and 3 and kept the teachings of the Nicolaitans, the group of destroyers, so Jesus chose Apostle John to send them letters of repentance, but they did not repent. Therefore, Jesus judged the angels of the seven churches and their congregation with the sword of his mouth, that is, the word of judgment that came out of the mouth of Jesus.

"The 'sword' is a local product in Pergamum. It symbolises power, justice, pride and Roman power"

"Revelation 2:16 says, 'Repent therefore! Otherwise I will soon come to you and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth.'

Did 'Pergamum' have pride or not? Yes, there was pride. That's why the symbol of that city is the sword. The reason is that the sword was the most powerful instrument under the Roman Empire. Isn't there a special product for each region? If you go to Pergamum, even now, only in Pergamum will you find small knives that are sold to tourists.

A knife has two meanings. The first is strength, justice, and pride. But it also symbolises the power of Rome."
