Shincheonji Volunteer Group Cheongju Branch & Okcheon Defoliant Veterans' Association Sign MOU for War-Free World
“When I participated in the (Korean) war 60 years ago, I didn't know about the horrors that would unfold. The Cheongju branch has been conducting yearly activities to raise awareness of the importance of patriotic sentiment and peace, and I was touched by their sincerity, which led to the signing of the agreement here today.”
Jong-seon Lee, a veteran of the Korean War and director of the Okcheon branch of the Korean Defoliant Veterans' Association, said this upon awarding a plaque of appreciation to the Shincheonji Volunteer Group Cheongju Branch at the MOU signing ceremony for cooperation held on the 17th.
The MOU expressed a shared commitment towards a conflict-free world.
About 150 people attended the event, including officials and representatives of both organisations, local community figures and the Okcheon County Council Chairman.
Upon receiving the plaque of appreciation, the Shincheonji Volunteer Group Cheongju Branch Manager emphasised, “Creating a peaceful and beautiful world is the ultimate goal and purpose of the Cheongju Branch.”
The Shincheonji Volunteer Group Cheongju Branch has been actively engaged in various related volunteer activities, including donating goods and hosting filial piety events for local domestic veterans' organisations; hosting cultural 'Hyo Dream Events' for widows of war twice a year; and providing vehicles and refreshments to veterans when they visit national cemeteries and other national events.
The Shincheonji Volunteer Group Cheongju Branch is committed to increasing the level of respect shown to veterans who have devoted themselves to the country, and is working to fulfil the shared desire for a world free from war.
