What is the 'Temple of Jerusalem' that is Thrown Down in Matthew 24?

by - 10:45

📰The Bible is one of the best-selling and most widely distributed books in history, yet it is also considered to be among the least understood. The Bible, which is referred to as the New Covenant and Promise of God, in which 'the way to heaven and salvation' is presented, differs in theologians' interpretations that make it difficult to understand. These differing interpretations have been the cause of the rise of denominations with each one establishing their own doctrine. With the increase in online church services and gatherings resulting from the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, there has been growing interest in the comparison of various church doctrine. This paper, therefore, attempts to provide readers with the opportunity to compare differing Biblical teachings without interpretation. Among a host of online sermons and Bible-based teachings, the contrasting doctrine between the established Church and Shincheonji Church of Jesus, which has drawn public interest throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, is hereby compared and summarised. Best efforts have been made to provide a summary of Shincheonji Church of Jesus' understanding of the Bible. Judgment as to what is right or wrong is left to the reader’s discernment.

"The 'Temple of Jerusalem' is a spiritual Jerusalem that became corrupt and was destroyed by false pastors due to its corruption at the time of the Lord's Second Coming"

In Matthew 24, the destruction of the temple in Jerusalem is one of the signs that marks the Lord's return. When the disciples drew Jesus' attention to the temple in Jerusalem, Jesus said, "Not one stone here will be left on another; every one will be thrown down".

The temple in Jerusalem, to which the disciples drew Jesus' attention in verse 1, had taken 46 years to build. If so, was the temple to be thrown down referring to a physical temple? What is the reason for its demise? Moreover, in Matthew 24, deception, conflict, wars and famines are promised to occur. Are these literal events?

In Matthew 24:14, these events are said to be about the gospel of the kingdom. The 'Gospel' is joyful and blessed news. Do these events sound like the joyful and blessed gospel of the kingdom?

Jesus likened the destruction of the temple to the end of the age, which is the end of the religious world. In John 16:25, Jesus said that when the time comes, he would reveal things about the Father in plain language.

So what is this temple? In 1 Corinthians 3:16-17, it was said you yourselves (people) are the temple of God, and that those who defile this temple would be destroyed. As evidenced through the words of John 2:19-21, this temple was not referring to a physical temple. It had a spiritual meaning that referred to a holy person - the temple of the body. In other words, people who believed in God themselves became the holy temple of Jerusalem. Isaiah 1:1 records the vision concerning Judah and Jerusalem, and in verse 4, says that it had become a corrupt, sinful nation filled with people who betrayed. The temple of Jerusalem that was falling apart was where the people of Israel - tainted with sin, corruption and betrayal - were.

The destruction of the temple refers to the people of God, who were the holy temple at the first coming and who, due to their betrayal, were taken captive and destroyed by the scribes and Pharisees, the false snake-like shepherds (pastors) in Matthew 23. It was a prophecy that Christians, the people of God, would be taken captive by a false pastor, and destroyed.

Regarding this destruction, Matthew 24:15 says that the 'abomination that causes desolation '(destruction) will stand in the holy place. The abomination of desolation refers to a false pastor - that is, the beast with seven heads and ten horns. Moreover, in Revelation 13:6, we see that the location of 'heaven' is the tabernacle of the seven golden lampstands (church) that had broken the covenant with God in Revelation chapters 2 and 3, and was the Tabernacle of Heaven.

At this time of destruction, the mountain where we are told to flee to in Matthew 24:16 is the place of salvation in today's time when the book of Revelation is fulfilled. This place is Mount Zion, where the Lamb is in Revelation 14:1. This Mount Zion is the holy city, New Jerusalem recorded in Revelation 21, the new heaven and new earth Shincheonji, to which the kingdom of heaven comes and unites. God, Jesus and the promised pastor are at this place today, so it is the mountain of salvation that believers must find.

In summary, the temple in Jerusalem that is thrown down in Matthew 24 is not a physical temple, but a tabernacle of the chosen people, which is the tabernacle of the seven golden lampstands that was destroyed by the destroyers - that is, the beast with seven heads and ten horns - because they had failed to keep the covenant with God at the time of the second coming.

"The Temple of Jerusalem was destroyed in AD70. It was destroyed because of its treasures"
Korean Church

Pastor A of the Baptist Church
"The Jews at that time were fighting for independence under Roman rule, but by AD70 had been completely destroyed. Israel then scattered throughout the world.

Around AD 70, the then General
Titus became Roman Emperor. He led an army and attacked Jerusalem. (The Roman Emperor) destroyed Jerusalem's Temple, which they (Israel) had boasted about as being their spiritual pillar. The temple was burned and the walls melted. Rumours that 'there's gold, silver and precious stones in the temple of Jerusalem' had already spread widely.

So the temple was destroyed and burned, but the gold on the walls and everything else melted. It seeped between the soil and the stones. Therefore, in order to find treasures, all the pillars and stones were dug up, and the gold pieces stuck to the stones. How would you have done it? They had to be broken up and ground into powder with pure gold extracted separately.

So, this is not about the extent of the wall's destruction, but a story of temple bricks being crushed (removed). Therefore, the saying, 'not one stone here will be left on another; every one will be thrown down', already found its literal fulfilment."

Pastor B of the Presbyterian Church
(Jerusalem Temple) "Because every stone in the temple had a jewel in it, when it collapsed, none of them were left due to people seeking to find jewels among stones."
