What is the 'Book of Life' in the Book of Revelation?
📰The Bible is one of the best-selling and most widely distributed books in history, yet it is also considered to be among the least understood. The Bible, which is referred to as the New Covenant and Promise of God, in which 'the way to heaven and salvation' is presented, differs in theologians' interpretations that make it difficult to understand. These differing interpretations have been the cause of the rise of denominations with each one establishing their own doctrine. With the increase in online church services and gatherings resulting from the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, there has been growing interest in the comparison of various church doctrine. This paper, therefore, attempts to provide readers with the opportunity to compare differing Biblical teachings without interpretation. Among a host of online sermons and Bible-based teachings, the contrasting doctrine between the established Church and Shincheonji Church of Jesus, which has drawn public interest throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, is hereby compared and summarised. Best efforts have been made to provide a summary of Shincheonji Church of Jesus' understanding of the Bible. Judgment as to what is right or wrong is left to the reader’s discernment.

The book of Revelation is a prophetic book recorded roughly 2000 years ago by John, a disciple of Jesus, who heard the voice of heaven and ascended to heaven to see, hear, and write about the future. Prophecies are words given so that we may see, hear and believe when they are fulfilled. The book of Revelation has a total of 22 chapters, and in chapter 20 the dead stand before the throne with books opened, the book of life then opened, and the dead then judged according to what is recorded in these books. It is written that one will be judged by their actions according to what is written in these books.
The books that are opened before the throne to judge the dead are the 66 books of the Bible, which is the law of heaven. Just as Jesus carried out judgment at the first coming after opening the sealed books of the Old Testament, Jesus also carries out judgment by opening the books of the New Testament at the time of the fulfilment of Revelation. At the time when Revelation 20 is fulfilled, the dead - both great and small - will be judged by their deeds according to what is written in the books, and they will either enter eternal life or eternal punishment.
However, Revelation 20:15 states that those whose names are not written in the book of life will be thrown into hell and the lake of fire. In Revelation 21:27, it is written that only those whose names are written in the Lamb's book of life will enter the holy city, the kingdom of heaven. If you are a true believer, your name must be written in the book of life. Is your name written in the book of life? What is the book of life, and where is it?
This book of life is the registry of heaven, in which the names of those who have attained life, whether in the spiritual realm or in the physical realm, are recorded. Just as Koreans have their names registered in the Korean family registry, God's people are registered in heaven's family registry. For this reason, Apostle Paul said that our citizenship is in heaven (Philippians 3:20), and Jesus told us not to rejoice that demons surrender to you, but that your names are written in heaven (Luke 10:20). The book of life is written in the spiritual realm as well as in the physical realm. The name of (the spirit of) a dead person will be recorded in the spiritual realm and the name of a living person recorded in the physical realm.
Just as the place Jesus was in 2000 years ago was the spiritual kingdom of heaven, when Revelation is fulfilled, the kingdom of heaven in the spiritual world and the church led by the one who overcomes who sits on Jesus' throne will become one, as recorded in Revelation 3:12 and 21. This is heaven on earth. In this way, when the spiritual realm becomes one with the physical realm, the names recorded within both the spiritual and physical realms will be found within the 12 tribes of new spiritual Israel led by the one who overcomes. This is because, as 1 Thessalonians 4:14 says, God will bring the spirits of those who have died in the Lord.

Just as the names of the disciples who believed in and followed Jesus were written in the book of life at the time of the first coming (see Philippians 4:3), today, which is when the book of Revelation is fulfilled, those whose names are written in the church records of the 12 tribes of Shincheonji - led by the one who overcomes to whom the spiritual realm comes - are recorded in the book of life. Today, at the time of the fulfilment of Revelation, the corrupt traditional Church will come to an end as recorded in Revelation chapters 6, 13 and 18, and after the events of betrayal and destruction, the one who overcomes creates God's new kingdom and new people as recorded in Revelation 7 and 14. Believers born again of the seed of the Word of God become the 144,000 new spiritual Israelites of the 12 tribes who are sealed with the word of revelation and whose names are registered in the church of heaven.
As promised in Revelation 2 and 3, the one who overcomes receives from Jesus the bread of eternal life, the white stone to judge, and the iron sceptre to rule all nations, and according to the will of Jesus, the names of the believers written in the book of life can be blotted out and removed. Moreover, believers led by the one who overcomes can see the registry of the 12 tribes of spiritual new Israel and know that their names have been written in the book of life.
These people are those who have fought and overcome the destroyers at the time of the fulfilment of Revelation. Those who do not know the newly created 12 tribes of spiritual new Israel is evidence that their names are not written in the book of life. A person who does not even know what the book of life is, or where it is, cannot be said to have his or her name written in the book of life. Furthermore, one who claims to have received the Holy Spirit, received salvation and is orthodox - yet does not have their name written in the book of life - is not someone who belongs to the kingdom of heaven. This is the same as saying that no matter how much you may claim to be Korean, if your name is not registered in the Korean family registry, then you will not be recognised as such.
