Pastor Seong-woo Lee of Wondang Yeonggwang Church held a one-person protest outside the court on the 16th, calling for bail for Shincheonji Chairman ManHee Lee and urging consideration of his age and health.

“A 95-year-old man has suffered a spinal fracture while in detention. How much more pain and risk must he endure?” Pastor Lee said, appealing for the court to allow him to receive necessary medical treatment.

Pastor Lee said that while legal procedures must be followed, humanitarian considerations for elderly defendants should also be taken into account.

“It is important for those who are ill to receive timely treatment,” he said. “I hope his health and humanitarian circumstances are fully considered and that a decision on bail is made promptly.”
