Men in their 40s and 50s often face the pressures of the “sandwich generation,” balancing care for ageing parents, raising children and work responsibilities. Concerns about job security and retirement can add to emotional strain.
To help address social isolation and strengthen relationships, the Seniors Group of Shincheonji Church of Jesus is offering Couples & Dad Classes, volunteer programmes and hobby clubs.
The Couples & Dad Class encourages parents and children to communicate through shared activities. Se-gyu Im, 53, said, “Spending time together, laughing and working up a sweat helped me feel much closer to my son.” His son, Si-hyeon Kim, 16, said, “I discovered a side of my dad and his love that I had not known before.”
Volunteering—including environmental cleanups, supporting vulnerable households and delivering meals to elderly people living alone—also gives participants a sense of purpose. Jae-seok Lee, 53, said volunteering helped him realise that he could still contribute to society.
Sports and hobby clubs, including table tennis, hiking, music, photography and calligraphy, provide opportunities to relieve stress and build friendships. Dae-hoon Yoon, 52, said, “Sharing hobbies with others relieves stress and has brought new vitality to my life.”
A Shincheonji Church of Jesus official said, “We will continue providing opportunities for the older generation to build camaraderie within the community and practise service and sharing.”
