Shincheonji Volunteer Group Yeosu Branch Campaigns for '2026 Yeosu World Islands Expo'
Yeosu City in South Jeolla Province, Republic of Korea, is putting all its efforts into successfully hosting the '2026 Yeosu World Islands Expo.'
Accordingly, on the 11th, the Yeosu branch of the Shincheonji Volunteer Group set up an exhibition promotion booth at the Yi Sun-Sin Square in Yeosu City and introduced the representative islands of Yeosu, including Geumodo ('Golden Turtle'), Odongdo, and Sonjukdo, explaining the origins and characteristics of the islands.
There were also experiential booths featuring camellia, the symbol of Yeosu City. Yuna Kim (42, Suncheon City), a citizen who participated in a swallow kite activity, said, “I made a swallowtail butterfly with my child today. I hope that the new year will be filled with happy events.”
Moreover, the Yeosu branch visited the shops around Yi Sun-sin Square, handed out island expo pamphlets and camellia brooches, and also carried out environmental clean-up activities around the shops.
The head of the Yeosu branch expressed the Branch's determination to continue to engage in various activities in cooperation with the local community to create a beautiful and clean Yeosu in the lead up to the Expo.
Meanwhile, the '2026 Yeosu World Islands Expo' will be held for a total of 61 days, from September 5th to November 4th 2026, under the theme of ‘Connecting the Island, Sea and the Future’. It is the world's first island-themed exhibition where 30 countries are expected to gather for an international forum to discuss the charm, value and importance of each country's islands and explore their development potential. Over 3 million visitors are expected.
