Who is the 'Rider on the White Horse' in Revelation 6?

by - 07:31

📰The Bible is one of the best-selling and most widely distributed books in history, yet it is also considered to be among the least understood. The Bible, which is referred to as the New Covenant and Promise of God, in which 'the way to heaven and salvation' is presented, differs in theologians' interpretations that make it difficult to understand. These differing interpretations have been the cause of the rise of denominations with each one establishing their own doctrine. With the increase in online church services and gatherings resulting from the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, there has been growing interest in the comparison of various church doctrine. This paper, therefore, attempts to provide readers with the opportunity to compare differing Biblical teachings without interpretation. Among a host of online sermons and Bible-based teachings, the contrasting doctrine between the established Church and Shincheonji Church of Jesus, which has drawn public interest throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, is hereby compared and summarised. Best efforts have been made to provide a summary of Shincheonji Church of Jesus' understanding of the Bible. Judgment as to what is right or wrong is left to the reader’s discernment.

"The rider on the white horse is Jesus, who is spirit. The spirit works through the flesh"

In Revelation 6, a white horse and its rider appear. This rider on the white horse does not appear only in Revelation chapter 6. In Revelation 19, a rider on a white horse, who is 'Faithful and True' and is named 'King of Kings and Lord of Lords', appears. In Revelation 17:14, Jesus the Lamb is called 'Lord of lords and King of kings', so it can be understood that the rider on this white horse is Jesus.

The Bible speaks of ‘angels’ as horses, chariots, and cherubim. God has created thousands upon thousands (millions) of angels, and in Hebrews 1:14 these angels are referred to as ministering spirits. In the book of Psalms, it is written that the angels do God's will (Psalm 103:20-21).

In other words, because God is in the position of giving commands and sending out angels, the Bible likens angels to the wind, clouds, and horses that God rides. The angel who works under the command of God is expressed in parables (figurative language) in the Bible. So the rider becomes God or Jesus, and the horse becomes an angel.

Although the horse in Revelation 6 looks like a single horse, it can be seen in Zechariah 6 that there are many angels, numbering thousands upon thousands, that  surround the four archangels (Revelation 5:11). Just as God and Jesus use angels to deliver their word in the spiritual realm, spirits deliver God's word on this earth using flesh (Isaiah 31:3). We can understand the relationship between the spirit and flesh as the flesh being that which works according to the spirit's command. This is why the spirit is expressed as a rider.

With this in mind, let's take a look at Revelation chapter 6 and the background of the text. At the Second Coming, as promised in Revelation 1, the tabernacle of the seven golden lampstands - that is,  the Tabernacle Temple - appeared to prepare the way for the Lord. However, as seen in Revelation 2~3, the messengers and congregation broke the covenant with God and did not repent after receiving letters of repentance. Thus, they were judged.

Since Revelation 6 is an event that appears on this earth, one of the four living creatures speaks, and a white horse and its rider appear, meaning that many angels hear the command of the archangel and respond by carrying out their duty on this earth. So, as we saw in Revelation 19 and Revelation 17, the rider on the white horse is Jesus, and they become the many spirits belonging to Jesus.

Here, Jesus is in the position of the one who gives the command, so the question arises as to how Jesus can hear the command and go. This can be simply understood by considering the logic of the era of warfare with bows on horseback. Just as a king or prince went out to battle on horseback, gave orders, and took the lead against the enemy, Jesus was referring to spiritual warfare with the many spirits that belong to him. Some argue that the holy Jesus would not wield a weapon like a real bow. The bow that Jesus holds is not a real bow. In the Bible, the bow is figuratively likened to the word of judgment (Lamentations 2:2-4, Hab 3:9, John 12:48).

Jesus already overcame Satan and the world 2000 years ago, so why must he overcome again in the era of Revelation? It means that Jesus fought and overcame the devil who ruled the world at the first coming (John 16:33), and he wants to fight and overcome the devil again at the second coming of the Lord (Rev 17:14).

To summarise, the text is about the tabernacle of the seven golden lampstands - the Tabernacle Temple, which appears at the time of the fulfilment of the book of Revelation - that forsook the word of God and betrayed. God hid the secrets of the kingdom of heaven in parables, and today, all the parables are being plainly testified.

"This is the antichrist disguised as Jesus. Jesus would never fight with a bow."

"The seven-year tribulation has already begun and Jesus breaks the seal in heaven.

If Jesus rides a white horse and races to win again, it does not make logical sense. The reason is that the church is already in heaven at this time, and Jesus can never be the one who fights with a bow.

Also, in Revelation 19:12, it is recorded that Jesus wore many crowns, but the one riding a white horse wears one crown, so it is by no means Jesus.

And Jesus is not the one who wins and fights to win again, because he has already won. Then who is the one riding this white horse? He is the Antichrist who pretends to be Jesus Christ and falsely claims that he is the Messiah who brings peace and prosperity to the world. If you look at the Antichrist here, he has only a bow and no arrows. This indicates that he is only threatening and cannot actually shoot a bow.

In the future, the Antichrist will gain the white horse of victory and the crown of glory - that is, the position of the leader, but will not actually be taken away by war."
