Shincheonji Volunteer Group, Mokpo Branch, Practises Love for its Neighbour “With a Serving Heart”
[Cheonji Ilbo Mokpo=Reporter Mi-jeong Kim] “There are no people who are this diligent. The difference between them and some others, who only pretend to serve, is evident.”
Yu-min Yeon, chairman of Gwanghae Korean Senior Citizens Association (KSCA) in Yonghae-dong, said this about the volunteers of the Mokpo branch of Shincheonji Volunteer Group. Chairman Yeon said, “I have witnessed the activities of these volunteers in the last two years since becoming chairman.” “All the Shincheonji members who serve are good people,” he said.
Shincheonji Volunteer Group, Mokpo Branch (Director Dong-jin Lee) conducted the delivery of freshly-made kimchi and environmental clean-up activities with about 400 members from the 6th to the 10th December.
The activity on that day was carried out as part of the 2022 Love for Neighbour Volunteer Project. 200 batches of kimchi were delivered to four places, including senior citizens' centres and organisations for people with disabilities, where hair & beauty care and cleaning services have been carried out throughout the year.
On the 11th, around 400 members of the Mokpo branch carried out environmental cleaning activities by collecting rubbish from 8 places, including Mokpo Station, Peace Square, Rose Street, Samhakdo Park, and Samhyangcheon neighbourhood.
A citizen who watched the volunteers clean up the environment despite the chilly weather said, “I was driving and I saw people wearing yellow vests cleaning all over the city.” “It was great to see them pick up even the smallest piece of litter,” he said.
One member who participated in the volunteer activity said, “I am proud that we were able to remove all the litter strewn in the park with our hands.”
Dong-jin Lee, head of the Mokpo Branch of Shincheonji Volunteer Group, said, “I have been a volunteer for several years and have been shunned for being a Shincheonji member, but we have never stopped volunteering.” “Every volunteer is a citizen who loves Mokpo City. I ask for your warm support for volunteers who are sincerely practising love with a serving heart.”
Meanwhile, the Mokpo branch of Shincheonji Volunteer Group is conducting ▲ 'Wall Story', a mural service that paints stories on dilapidated walls ▲ 'Hair & Beauty' service ▲ Environmental 'Green Nature' campaign ▲ Medical 'Health Doctor' service ▲ ‘More the Better’, an emotional wellbeing programme ▲ COVID-19 sanitisation service ▲ Social contribution projects that transcend religion, race, and national boundaries for the betterment of veterans, people with disabilities, public interest, historic heritage and culture.
