Shincheonji Volunteer Group Gwangju Branch Holds Water-Sharing Campaign to Mitigate Heat-Related Illnesses
The Gwangju branch of the Shincheonji Volunteer Group held a water-sharing campaign in the heat of the day at Usan Geullin park, Gwangju City, from July 11th to 13th. Amid the reality whereby temperatures regularly rise close to 40 degrees, the campaign was held with the intent to mitigate heat-related illnesses, particularly among citizens of older age.
Accordingly, the Gwangju branch of the Shincheonji Volunteer Group handed out 600 bottles of cool bottled water to senior residents and to local shop owners in neighbouring Malbau Market, a spot frequented by the older generation.
The cycle of service driving the campaign is unique, in that all expenses spent on the campaign were paid with profits from the old clothes collection campaign previously held by the Gwangju branch of the Shincheonji Volunteer Group.
Meanwhile, in Korea, the Shincheonji Volunteer Group's active campaigns and projects include:-
- 'More the Better': delivery of volunteers' home-grown companion plants to neighbours desiring emotional support
- 'Green Nature': an environmental campaign that is purposed to leave a pristine natural environment as a legacy for posterity
- 'Beautiful Seniors': supports the happy and healthy retirement of those in older age
- 'Pinky Promise': promotes communication and harmony between people with disabilities and people without
- 'Shoulder Comrades': provides hair and beauty treatments and coal briquette delivery to low-income households
