South Korea endured historic rains in the summer of 2025, with flooding and landslides that displaced over 10,000 people and caused widespread infrastructure damage. As soon as the skies cleared, temperatures soared into the mid‑30s °C, making both cleanup and recovery especially difficult.
Amid that challenging period, Shincheonji Volunteer Group stepped forward in affected regions like Cheonan, Asan, and Seosan, bringing hope and practical help to those struggling to rebuild. This article looks on the volunteer effort in Asan.
Following torrential rains of nearly 60mm per hour that poured down across Asan City, flooding homes, businesses, and roads, 20 members of the Asan branch of the Shincheonji Volunteer Group showed up with shovels, brooms, and mops on the morning of the 17th July, working silently and consistently to help clean and restore damaged homes in vulnerable areas.
Asan recorded a cumulative rainfall of 360.6mm that day, prompting the evacuation of residents in some areas in preparation for a potential disaster. The Shincheonji Volunteer Group began its volunteer work by touring Sucheol-ri from the morning, removing accumulated soil and debris from flooded homes and roads.

A Sucheol-ri resident said, “I was scared when the water suddenly rose, but fortunately, the volunteers arrived just as the rain subsided. I was truly touched by their silent, unwavering efforts.”
A volunteer who was present at the scene said, “It was a daunting situation, but we were able to quickly resolve it by helping each other.”
