On the 7th December, the Shincheonji Volunteer Group Dongdaemun Branch took a commemorative photo after completing the environmental cleanup around Gyeongdong Market

“Business has become much better thanks to the thorough cleaning every week. I'm always grateful for your consistent service.”

On December 7th 2025, volunteers from the Shincheonji Volunteer Group Dongdaemun Branch carried out an environmental cleanup effort around Gyeongdong Market in Dongdaemun District, improving safety and walkability for local residents. Following the service, a local merchant who runs a store in the neighbourhood expressed her gratitude above.

Early that morning, 25 volunteers equipped with outdoor brooms and sweeping brushes cleaned up the market area by collecting food waste, cigarette butts, and household waste that had accumulated with the kimchi-making season in the alleyways and around the shops, making the area look noticeably cleaner.

Due to the combination of traditional markets and a large floating population, the Dongdaemun branch has been providing regular cleaning services every week for more than three years to create a cleaner environment and promote togetherness with the local community.

Joo-won Kim (29, female, Jegi neighbourhood), who participated in the volunteer work, said, “Seeing how quickly the market environment became dirty, I realised that this activity was particularly necessary.”

For such areas, environmental cleanup is more than beautification - it helps prevent slips, falls, and other winter accidents.

Meanwhile, the Dongdaemun branch has conducted a total of 44 volunteer activities this year, providing assistance to a total of 7817 people.
