Street cleaning volunteers from the Shincheonji Volunteer Group Dongjak Branch are volunteering in the Sindaebang neighbourhood area of Dongjak District on the 10th December

On 10th December 2025, volunteers from the Shincheonji Volunteer Group Dongjak Branch carried out a major street-cleaning effort in the Sindaebang neighbourhood of Dongjak District, improving safety and walkability for local residents.

Early that morning, 25 volunteers gathered, and over a 90-minute period covered a one-kilometre stretch on foot through the neighbourhood to remove built-up litter, fallen leaves, cigarette butts around pedestrian walkways and pollutants around drains, making the area look noticeably cleaner. Volunteers amassed three to four 50-litre waste refuse sacks.

Although densely populated, the neighbourhood contains numerous blind spots that make it a place where small household waste can easily accumulate. As a result, the local council frequently receives complaints about abandoned waste.

Volunteer Min-seong Son (26, male, Sillim neighbourhood) said:
“I was surprised by the sheer amount of small pieces of litter that had accumulated, and it was deeply rewarding to see the spaces I cleaned transform,” and added, “I participated because I wanted to directly face the environmental problems that I usually pass by but overlook.”

For such areas, an environmental cleanup of this kind is more than beautification - it helps prevent slips, falls, and other winter accidents.

Meanwhile, this was the seventh such activity carried out by the street cleaning team which began in February of this year.

The Dongjak branch plans to continue its street cleaning service next year.
