Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, the streets near the Gyeonggi Provincial Office and the Gyeonggi Tourism Organization in Suwon, Republic of Korea, are crowded with Shincheonji Church of Jesus members expressing their resentment at the unconstitutional measures of Gyeonggi Province and the Gyeonggi Tourism Organization.

On 29th October, the international event 'Religious Leaders' Forum and Graduation Ceremony for Peace, Freedom, and Unification' that was scheduled to take place the following day at the Imjingak Peace Nuri Park in Paju was suddenly cancelled by the Gyeonggi Provincial Governor Dong-yeon Kim and the Gyeonggi Tourism Organization, even though the Organization had stated until the day before that there were "no plans to cancel." Despite months of preparations, the event, which was scheduled to welcome 30,000 attendees from 78 countries, was cancelled last minute under alleged pressure from vested groups.

In accordance with the firm will that “we can no longer tolerate an administration that directly violates the Constitution that guarantees religious freedom,” the leaders of the 12 tribes of Shincheonji Church of Jesus have taken the lead in strongly condemning the decision by the Gyeonggi Provincial Governor Dong-yeon Kim and the Gyeonggi Tourism Organization through protest rallies that began on the 15th as a large-scale 30,000-strong protest rally held in front of the Gyeonggi Provincial Office.

More recently, 0n the 27th, at noon, in freezing temperatures and sleet blowing, 2000 believers of Shincheonji Church of Jesus from the Andrew and John tribes - representing a demographic of professions including doctors, teachers, nurses, and university students - gathered for the sixth relay rally. Protestors were holding pickets that read, “What kind of biased religious oppression is this!”

On that day, the head of the Andrew tribe strongly criticised the actions of Gyeonggi Province Governor Dong-yeon Kim through a press conference. He raised suspicions that Governor Kim was in collusion with the Seoul Metropolitan Christian Council and emphasised that “Shincheonji Church of Jesus members are also citizens of the Republic of Korea and residents of Gyeonggi Province who pay taxes.” He continued, “How can the governor say that he loves the residents while suppressing the rights of the people?”

On the same day, about 1000 members of the John Tribe of Shincheonji Church of Jesus gathered outside the Gyeonggi Tourism Organization and chanted “Governor Dong-yeon Kim, step down,” “President Won-yong Cho, step down,” and “Guarantee freedom of religion”, demanding an official apology and fair compensation from the two organisations.

The head of the John Tribe of Shincheonji Church of Jesus said in a statement, “The Republic of Korea is a democratic republic and a country governed by the rule of law. Article 20, Clauses 1 and 2 of the Constitution stipulate that all citizens have freedom of religion and that religion and politics are separate.” He continued, “However, our Shincheonji Church of Jesus is suffering from the oppression of religion and biased administration in the 21st century Republic of Korea, which is unjustly depriving us of our rights guaranteed by the Constitution.”

He said, “Is this behaviour of suddenly cancelling the use of a venue that was legitimately applied for for Shincheonji Church of Jesus’ 110,000 graduation ceremony on the day of the event the realisation of a fair society free from discrimination?”

He added, “To President Won-yong Cho, who thinks he can avoid responsibility by hiding under a dark lamp, we have gathered again today to condemn your unjust behaviour and silence,” and asked, “Why are you pretending not to hear, not to see, and not to hear the people’s appeal? Is this fair and just?”

Meanwhile, a petition on the Gyeonggi Provincial titled, “We request a public apology and compensation for the damages caused by Governor Dong-yeon Kim’s unfair decision to cancel the venue” has far surpassed the 10,000 signatures required for a response, and as of that day, garnered nearly 50,000 signatures.

Meanwhile, Shincheonji Church of Jesus plans to continue holding protest rallies until the following demands are met: an official apology from Gyeonggi authorities, accountability through appropriate disciplinary action, fair policies to ensure unbiased venue management, and preventive measures to stop future discrimination.

The initial 30,000-strong protest rally held on the 15th has been followed by relay protest rallies held in the following order: on the 18th (Gyeonggi Provincial Office: Bartholomew Tribe), on the 20th (Gyeonggi Provincial Office: Seoul James Tribe, Gyeonggi Tourism Organization: John Tribe), on the 22nd (Gyeonggi Provincial Office: Peter Tribe, Gyeonggi Tourism Organization: John Tribe), on the 25th (Gyeonggi Provincial Office: Simon Tribe, Gyeonggi Tourism Organization: John Tribe), and on the 27th (Gyeonggi Provincial Office: Andrew Tribe, Gyeonggi Tourism Organization: John Tribe).

Religious freedom is under threat in South Korea.

On November 27th, religious leaders and organisations gathered in front of the Gyeonggi Provincial Office to demand justice. Why?

The issue began when the international event 'Religious Leaders' Forum and Graduation Ceremony for Peace, Freedom, and Unification' scheduled for the 30th of last month at the Imjingak Peace Nuri Park in Paju was suddenly cancelled on the day by the Gyeonggi Tourism Organization, even though it had stated until the day before that there were "no plans to cancel." Despite months of preparations, the event, which was scheduled to welcome 30,000 attendees from 78 countries, was cancelled last minute under alleged pressure from vested groups.

Religious leaders worldwide have condemned this act as a clear violation of South Korea’s constitutional right to freedom of religion, defining this as biased administration that yielded to pressure from a particular Christian group.

A joint protest statement was signed by 402 organisations (from Korea and overseas), 758 religious leaders, including Protestants, Buddhists and Catholics, and 977 opinion leaders. The statement demands an official apology from Gyeonggi authorities, accountability through appropriate disciplinary action, fair policies to ensure unbiased venue management, and preventive measures to stop future discrimination.

Venerable Yong-Hyeon (69), a member of the Hwaeom Order of Korean Buddhism, who read the statement on behalf of all religious leaders, personally delivered an envelope containing 1735 ‘protest statements’ to the head of the tourism industry division of the Gyeonggi Provincial Government. He asserted, “Using public power to suppress a specific religion is a violent administrative act that seriously violates the basic rights guaranteed by the Constitution.”

Religious freedom is for everyone, no matter one's faith. When authorities give in to pressure and suppress this right, it threatens democracy and human rights for all. Let’s stand for justice and equality! Together, we can protect religious freedom in South Korea.

A wave of signboard replacement is blowing in the Presbyterian Church in South Korea.

On the 21st November, Pastor Kim, who has been active in pastoring at a Presbyterian church in Seoul for over 40 years, changed the signboard to Shincheonji Church of Jesus at a 'Signboard Replacement Agreement and Signboard Unveiling Ceremony' held at the church he serves.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) agreement between Shincheonji Seongnam Church and the church led by Pastor Kim serves to clearly establish the basic direction and will of cooperation between the two parties. It specifically promises to cooperate in providing biblical materials from Shincheonji Church of Jesus, supporting education for evangelism and church growth, and dispatching Shincheonji lecturers.

Explaining the main reason behind his decision to sign an MOU and change church signage, Pastor Kim said, “I felt that the education coming from the Zion Christian Mission Centre (the educational institution of Shincheonji Church of Jesus) was very logical,” and he is hopeful that he can see the Korean Church unite in a climate of increasing division.

The head lecturer of Shincheonji Seongnam Church said, “If there is a church that asks for help in the future, we will actively cooperate.”

The number of signboard replacements in the Seongnam region is expected to grow in the future, as Shincheonji Seongnam Church has now established an MOU with 17 established denominations.

The MOU and signboard change phenomenon is not limited to Korea. In fact, the total number of pastors and churches worldwide that have signed MOUs with Shincheonji Church of Jesus and are conducting their ministries based on the prophecies and fulfilled realities of the New Testament (Book of Revelation) is rapidly increasing. As of the end of September, 747 churches in Korea and 13,127 churches in 84 countries overseas have signed MOUs with Shincheonji Church of Jesus. Moreover, 1671 churches in 43 countries have joined Shincheonji Church of Jesus and changed their signs. Most pastors and churches cite the 'excellence of the word' from Shincheonji Church of Jesus as the primary reason for the signboard change.

As the younger generation is increasingly leaving the church in South Korea, some church leaders are finding ways to address the spiritual thirst of the youth.

Pastor Choi, who is serving at a church in Seodaemun, Seoul, has a strong desire to target the 'Spiritual Gen Z' (those born from 1996 onwards and currently in their 20s). The 'Spiritual Gen Z' is a digital generation that values religious life and seeks to harmonise church and social values. Their tendency is to access religious materials through digital media and prefer offline worship services.

After learning about the high number of youth at the Seodaemun Church of Shincheonji Church of Jesus, Pastor Choi continued to meet with officials of the Shincheonji Seodaemun Church and decided to hold a 'sign replacement agreement signing ceremony and unveiling ceremony' on the 27th of this month.

Pastor Choi said, “As Gen Z Christians come to the realisation through Shincheonji Church of Jesus that we are now living in the era of the fulfilment of the Book of Revelation, I will fulfil my duty to awaken and develop the spirituality of the Gen Z by fully understanding the Book of Revelation.”

On the 27th, the Jecheon branch of the Shincheonji Volunteer Group provided hair and beauty services to members of senior citizens veterans' organisations, as part of its 'Beautiful Seniors' programme, at the Jecheon City War Veterans' Association Hall. The Jecheon Branch made pots of bamboo with a natural humidifying effect, while also spending time thinking about the importance of preventing colds and staying healthy through various experience booths.

On the 27th November, members of the Jecheon Veterans Association are having fun making pots of lucky bamboo together with the Shincheonji Volunteer Group

Earlier on the 20th, the Jecheon branch of the Shincheonji Volunteer Group received a recognition award for excellent volunteer work from the Jecheon City Volunteers Centre for the various volunteer activities carried out by its members throughout this year.

Other programmes that the Jecheon Branch has been actively conducting include:-
  • 'Green Nature' environmental clean-up activity to preserve a better environment for posterity
  • 'Wall Story', approaching its 13th year, is one of the three major projects of Shincheonji Volunteer Group conducted nationwide across all 73 branches. It is an urban regeneration project that restores dilapidated murals through paintings, depicting characteristics specific to local regions and the stories of local residents on murals. The themes and pictures designed on the murals are decorated upon the request of the beneficiaries
  • 'Health Doctor' approaches its 11th year and provides free medical services to foreign workers, who are often caught in the medical 'blind spot', the elderly living alone, and the underprivileged. Its brainchild, 'Five Senses Tour', is a project which removes the societal barriers between people with disabilities and people without and establishes a support structure for increased communication, understanding and the overcoming of physical and mental barriers

As of mid-October, 13,874 churches in 85 countries have signed an MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) with Shincheonji Church of Jesus, and 1671 churches in 43 countries have joined Shincheonji Church of Jesus and replaced their church signage with 'Shincheonji Church of Jesus'.

To change church signage means moving to a new denomination.

In Madagascar, where Christianity is divided into numerous denominations and instances of police and soldiers being deployed to suppress riots within churches are not an uncommon occurrence, one church pastor has witnessed a positive change to the once-chaotic reality of the religious community since changing the church signage to Shincheonji Church of Jesus.

After witnessing the Zion Christian Mission Centre’s 100,000 Graduation Ceremony in Daegu Stadium in November 2022 through social media, Pastor Rakotoniaina, who leads churches in the southern part of the island and was dismayed by the corruption worsening within the domestic church and church members falling away, desired change. In his words, “I concluded that the solution lay in the growth of Shincheonji Church of Jesus.” Pastor Rakotoniaina then drove for several days with his fellow pastors to Shincheonji Church of Madagascar (operated by the Simon Tribe of Shincheonji Church) in the capital, Antananarivo, to request changing denomination and signage.

Afterwards, in January 2023, Pastor Rakotoniaina took down the sign of the church he belonged to and replaced it with the sign of Shincheonji Church of Jesus. At that time, 33 churches changed their signs at the same time, and as of August, the number increased to 40 churches.

Since changing church signage to Shincheonji Church of Jesus, Pastor Rakotoniaina says, “The loud sounds of 'Amen' and praise coming from the church every day have caused residents to become interested and inquire about Shincheonji Church of Jesus.” The local response is that the vibrant and peaceful culture of Shincheonji Church of Jesus is having a great influence on the local community.

To date, local pastors who completed the Zion Christian Mission Centre course taught about 5000 church members and an atmosphere of curiosity about Shincheonji Church of Jesus is forming in the regions where the church members belong.

In a land slow to develop due to the conflict between ethnicities and religions, a time of healing has come. The Shincheonji Madagascar Church in Antananarivo pledges to unite a society and religious circles riddled with conflict.

Note: An MOU in this context is an agreement that fosters mutual growth of the church, because it enables churches to have the revealed theology of Shincheonji Church of Jesus taught to respective church congregations through Bible-based material provided by Shincheonji Church of Jesus. Shincheonji lecturers are sometimes dispatched to the respective church, and at other times, respective church pastors who study and complete the revealed theology from the Zion Christian Mission Centre through an intensive 6-8 month Bible course - from Genesis to Revelation inclusive - go on to teach their congregations the revealed theology of Shincheonji Church.

On the 12th November, Shincheonji Gwangju Church commemorated the graduation ceremony of 111,628 graduates in Gwangju City centre with a small cultural festival that carries the message of 'peace'.

Although the graduation was supposed to be held on October 30th at Peace Nuri Park in Paju City, the venue reservation was cancelled on the very day of the reserved day on the pretext of posing a 'security threat'. Shincheonji Church of Jesus hurriedly wrapped up all their preparations at the Peace Nuri Park and mobilised thousands of congregants and moved to Shincheonji Cheongju Church, where the main graduation service was held. Graduation ceremonies were also held in every church in every one of the 12 tribes of Shincheonji Church of Jesus.

The 'Autumn Culture Market' was held at Pungyeongjeong Park to arrange a space where residents could mingle by operating cultural performances, experience booths, and food zones.

Moreover, a photo exhibition containing the history of the growth of Shincheonji Church of Jesus from its beginnings to the present was organised into five themes and displayed along the pedestrian bridge next to Pungyeongjeong Children's Park, where many local citizens come and go. Lecturers and evangelists from the Zion Christian Mission Centre served as docents for each topic, helping local residents who were curious about Shincheonji Church of Jesus and the graduation ceremony understand it.

Shincheonji Church of Jesus is well-known for its rapid growth and celebrated its first 110,000 Graduatation Ceremony in October 2024. It was supposed to be held on October 30th at Peace Nuri Park in Paju City, but the venue reservation was cancelled on the very day of the reserved day, October 29th (Shincheonji Church reserved the space from 29th to 31st).

It’s surprising that the church hurriedly wrapped up what they were preparing and held the event at Cheongju Church, which is located further southwards. What’s more surprising is that an entity run by Gyeonggi Province, a regional government of South Korea, abruptly cancelled a reserved venue on the reserved day. The Gyeonggi Tourism Organization cited the reason for the cancellation as a 'security threat'. The specific reason was, that since Peace Nuri Park of Paju City is near North Korea, the event might cause a provocation.

Shincheonji Church of Jesus and the media outlets pointed out that the decision of the organisation – venue cancellation – is a violation of religious freedom.

Someone might be thinking, “The organisation surely managed the situation terribly. But, what makes this religious oppression?”

Here are reasons why Gyeonggi Tourism Organization’s sudden venue cancellation is a violation of religious freedom.

1. The place (and the event) was safe, even though the cancellation reason was ‘due to safety’.

– Shincheonji Church reserved the venue in July, and the organisation and the church discussed the safety matter and reviewed every detail of the composition of the event, such as the use of fireworks, speakers, ad balloons, etc., on October 16th. The organisation reviewed and confirmed that the event in Paju City was safe.

Gyeonggi Tourism Organization reassured Shincheonji Church that they wouldn’t cancel the venue reservation on October 23rd and 28th when Shincheonji Church asked if Gyeonggi Province's policy affected the venue reservation. On October 16th, Gyeonggi Province designated Paju City as one of Gyeonggi Province’s dangerous zones. Gyeonggi Tourism Organization answered that the policy was to prevent people from sending balloon messages to North Korea (some South Koreans would send messages to enlighten North Koreans. This action could provoke North Korea, so Gyeonggi Province was trying to restrict that action).

Other events at the same venue were held without restriction during October and November. Ginseng Festival used fireworks and ad balloons, which were held a week after when Paju City was designated as a danger zone. The Speaker Demo Event, which was held by the Christian Coalition of South Korea, was held on November 4th without a problem. It was within a week after the venue cancellation due to ‘safety’.

2. The cancellation was decided after an opposing rally of Christians
A so-called ‘anti Shincheonji’ group held a rally to cancel Shincheonji Church’s event. Although it’s against the law, some Korean regional governments would accept the major religions’ and denominations’ attempts at religious persecution as ‘opinions’ and cancel the contracts. Shincheonji Church of Jesus has been experiencing unjust administration by regional governments because of the civil petitions and  ‘anti-Shincheonji’ rallies for a few decades (venue reservation cancellations often happened before this one, for example).

The Constitutional Law of Korea specifies religious freedom, and no Korean should be discriminated against because of religion. The cancellation was ordered by the Gyeonggi Provincial Governor, the leader of the regional government (Gyeonggi Province). Then, the organization and the regional government violated the foundation law of its own nation!

It’s unheard of that the regional governments of an OECD member country publicly violate the Constitutional Law by trampling on religious freedom. Please pay attention to this issue and support oppressed religious people in Korea. No one should be discriminated against because of their belief.

“True faith is believing in the fulfilment of the Book of Revelation.”

With conviction, Chairman ManHee Lee of Shincheonji Church of Jesus spoke such words to an audience of over 200 domestic and overseas pastors at the 'Shincheonji Bible Seminar on the Testimony of the Fulfilled Realities of Revelation' conference held at the Shincheonji Peace Training Institute in Cheongpyeong, Republic of Korea, on the 23rd.

This Bible Seminar was held to help pastors understand and promote Bible-centred dialogue, and it contained Shincheonji’s will to strengthen cooperation with the religious community. The pastors were amazed as they looked around the sculptures constructed according to the Bible, and they were also stunned as they listened to the explanations of the results of Chairman ManHee Lee’s world peace tours displayed in the Peace Training Centre.

On the afternoon of the 23rd November, Chairman ManHee Lee is seen giving a lecture during the 'Shincheonji Bible Seminar on the Testimony of the Fulfilled Realities of Revelation' event held at the Shincheonji Peace Training Institute in Cheongpyeong, Republic of Korea

On that day, Chairman Lee of Shincheonji Church emphasised in detail the reality of the actual fulfilment of the prophecies recorded in the Book of Revelation and emphasised that this should be considered the essence of true faith.

Chairman Lee also emphasised that confirming and believing in the process of the Bible’s prophecies being fulfilled is the path to salvation: “God does not lie. The throne in heaven seen in Revelation Chapter 4 happened after the event of sending the letters in Chapters 2 and 3. That is what happened. But now, after the 12 tribes of those who were sealed in Chapter 14 were created, God’s throne is where the 12 tribes of Chapter 14 are. What do you think about this? One can say one is being diligent in their life of faith, but they need to compare it with the absolute words of Revelation.”

The Chairman repeatedly emphasised that if one does not belong to the 12 tribes promised in the Bible, one cannot be saved, and that now is the time when the prophecy of the Book of Revelation is being fulfilled. He asserted, “Anyone who believes in this word and practises it will be saved.”

Pastors who attended the lecture responded enthusiastically to the testimony given by Chairman ManHee Lee of Shincheonji Church of Jesus. Rev. Woo-jae Lee, Secretary General of the Christian Development Council, said, “I have visited all seven major religious denominations and attended many Christian churches, but this is the first time I have seen someone who knows the Book of Revelation in such detail. With spiritual leadership centred on the Bible, he delivers messages that are suitable for the younger generation. The established religious community needs to communicate with Shincheonji.”

To mark the 60th anniversary of the Vietnam War, the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs under the Government of South Korea issued new uniforms to approximately 175,000 surviving Vietnam War veterans.

To commemorate the noble spirit of the patriots who defended their country, the Cheongpyeong Branch of Shincheonji Volunteer Group held a '100 Years of Longevity' photoshoot service for members of the Vietnam War Veterans Association at the Gapyeong County Veterans Hall in Gyeonggi Province on the 21st November.

The photoshoot service falls under the nationwide 'Beautiful Seniors' programme of Shincheonji Volunteer Group to support a healthy and happy retirement under the slogan ‘One beautiful day is beautiful enough.’

The Cheongpyeong Branch also prepared this opportunity to further open up a wider range of volunteer opportunities for the senior citizens in Gapyeong County.

The deputy director of the Cheongpyeong branch of the Shincheonji Volunteer Group, said, “We will continue to develop a culture of respect and courtesy to honour the sacrifices of veterans who sacrificed their youth to protect peace and freedom, and ensure that their noble patriotic spirit is recognised as the highest value for future generations.”

“The more I come to listen to the words of the Chairman, the more moved and inspired I become... It's time for a new groundbreaking era of education for pastors.”

This is what Pastor Yong-ho Kim of the Presbyterian Church, who attended a seminar titled "Testifying to the Reality of Revelation's Fulfilment" held at the Shincheonji Peace Training Centre in Cheongpyeong, Republic of Korea, said following the seminar on the 23rd November.

Over 200 domestic and overseas pastors from various denominations attended the Revelation seminar and listened intently, taking notes as Chairman ManHee Lee of Shincheonji Church of Jesus delivered a lecture testifying to the fulfilled realities of the prophecies recorded in the Book of Revelation.

Many pastors in attendance said that they had attended the conferences and seminars where Chairman Lee was main speaker several times and that the most recent lecture only served to further deepen their respect towards the chairman.

Here are some of the testimonials of the pastor attendees following the seminar:-

“I’ve never met anyone who knows the Book of Revelation as well as Chairman ManHee Lee. Other scholars may have studied, but Chairman Lee has actually lived it” - Pastor and senior member of the Christian Council

“I came back to the Bible Seminar because every word from Chairman ManHee Lee is proven to be factual, so I wanted to come back and check for myself”
- Presbyterian Pastor Yoon-bu Jang

“I think that every word of the Chairman, which allows us to face the reality of the religious climate, will first eliminate conflicts between pastors and clergy. In a way, this is something that is really needed in our Republic of Korea. I believe that only when the walls of division are broken down and clergy unite, can this society and this country enjoy peace.” - Fellow Presbyterian Pastor

Some pastors in attendance who believe that the Chairman truly received the revealed word from heaven and can testify to the actual fulfilment of the Book of Revelation that he witnessed firsthand could drastically change current Christian pastors and usher in an era of "true spiritual leadership" for the religious world.

In this regard, Presbyterian pastor Yoon-bu Jang said, “Chairman ManHee Lee is someone who plays the role of Noah’s ark of salvation in the present age. He goes out into the world as a living witness with the assurance of salvation and preaches the gospel to all people.”

One who sincerely believes in the words of Jesus will accept that a promised messenger must be sent to the churches to testify what has been seen and heard firsthand (Revelation 22:8, 16). If Chairman Lee is not that messenger, then who is?

On November 23rd, a remarkable seminar titled "Testifying to the Reality of Revelation's Fulfilment" was held at the Shincheonji Peace Training Centre in Cheongpyeong, Republic of Korea. Organised by Shincheonji Church of Jesus, the event drew over 200 pastors from various denominations, leaving many deeply moved and astonished.

Chairman ManHee Lee boldly opened the seminar by inviting questions and challenges to his teachings, exuding confidence in the revealed word. His lecture centred on the fulfilment of Revelation, asserting that only someone who has seen and heard its events can testify to its truth.

Chairman Lee emphasised, “Today, Revelation’s prophecies have been fulfilled. Jesus has chosen a messenger to deliver this testimony, and I am sharing this word under His direction.”

The presentation provided detailed, verse-by-verse explanations of Revelation’s fulfilment, offering tangible evidence that captivated the audience.

Chairman Lee addressed the pastors directly, telling them that they should correctly understand the Book of Revelation, a book of prophecy, and enable their congregation to have faith based on the Bible. He earnestly urged the pastors in attendance, “Do not speak based on vague knowledge, but if there is anything new, check it one by one to see if it is true,” and “You must know everything perfectly, from the prophecies of the Book of Revelation to its true nature, and teach it to the congregation.”

Many pastors acknowledged this approach as a transformative experience, shifting their understanding from abstract interpretations to real-life fulfilment.

Pastor Kim of the Presbyterian Church said, “The more I hear Chairman Lee’s message, the more inspired I become. It’s something every pastor needs to witness.”

Another pastor shared, “This teaching is essential for resolving conflicts among religious leaders and bringing clarity to our faith.”

This seminar was not just a lecture; it was a groundbreaking presentation of the fulfilment of God’s word. Shincheonji Church has declared its commitment to spreading this truth and fostering dialogue across the Christian community.

Could this be the moment for a new era of faith grounded in the evidence of fulfilled prophecy?

“I came out to exercise and got an unexpected haircut, so it felt like a special day.”

This was said by a senior citizen who received hair and beauty treatment from the Namdong Branch of the Shincheonji Volunteer Group at Guwol Sports Neighbourhood Park in Incheon City on the 21st.

The Southeast Branch, together with four professional volunteers, provided hair and beauty services to about 30 senior citizens enjoying exercise and leisure activities at Guwol Sports Neighbourhood Park as part of the 'Beautiful Seniors' programme.

In an ageing society, the 'Beautiful Seniors' programme supports a healthy and happy retirement under the slogan ‘One beautiful day is beautiful enough.’ The programme is a regular volunteer activity of Shincheonji Volunteer Group conducted nationwide.

Volunteers also provided warm tea to the 80 or so residents who visited the park.

An official from the Namdong branch who planned the hair and beauty service at Guwol Sports Neighborhood Park said, “This is the first time we are doing it in an open space, but we planned it knowing that many seniors visit this place,” and added, “We are glad that we could help.”

On October 30th, 2024, Shincheonji Church of Jesus (Shincheonji Church) held its first 110K Graduation Ceremony at Chungju Church of Shincheonji Church.

Shincheonji Church surprised the world by having the 100K Graduation Ceremony thrice in 2019, 2022, and 2023. The number of graduates kept increasing every time they held the event. Finally, in 2024, Shincheonji Church renewed its records of the number of graduates by producing 111,628 graduates.

It’s an unprecedented number of graduates for one organisation.

Chairman ManHee Lee of Shincheonji Church emphasised at the graduation ceremony, “Shincheonji Church of Jesus mastered the Bible, including Revelation. What a good thing to be proud of. (…) Let’s not criticise or persecute each other. Let’s cooperate and help each other to make this nation a truly bright country.”

Although the number of participants was tremendous (about 10,000 graduates from abroad and approximately 1000 domestic and foreign religious leaders gathered in one place), the event successfully ended without a single accident, thanks to traffic guides and many volunteers. The volunteers focused on maintaining the safety and orderly manners of the crowd. It was unbelievable for an organisation that had to change the location of the event within a day.

The event was supposed to be held at Pyeonghwa Nuri Park in Paju City, Gyeonggi Province

Then, why was it held in Cheongju, in the southern region of Korea?

You can see the full article on Shincheonji Church’s 110K Graduation Ceremony here.

Celebrating the successful completion of the Bible course, Shincheonji Church rented a place in Paju City, Gyeonggi Province from the 29th to the 31st.

However, Gyeonggi Tourism Organization cancelled the venue reservation on the 29th (under the Gyeonggi Provincial Governor’s order), which was the date of rent they agreed to. It’s an unusual reaction for a region-owned company to cancel the venue reservation on the very day. Shincheonji Church restored the place to its original state and headed to Chungju Church to start over again the preparation for the event.

Declaiming the inappropriate treatment of the organisation, Shincheonji Church of Jesus made a statement and posted it on its official website.

Here is the statement:

Shincheonji Church of Jesus on the Surprise Cancellation of Imjingak Pyeonghwa Nuri Park

SEOUL, NOV 06 — A blatant act in the face of Korea’s Constitution that upholds religious freedom—Gyeonggi-do Government of the South Korean province and its public agency for tourism, Gyeonggi Tourism Organization, committed a reprehensible act that is unjustifiable on any account—an act of religious discrimination.

It seems the Gyeonggi-do government and Gyeonggi Tourism Organization have questionable views on where our country should be heading. Blinded by the political interest of the few, such decisions and actions that divide the nation, divide a religion, and could potentially lead the country into ruin begs the question of whether that is their objective.

Shincheonji Church of Jesus reserved the Imjingak Pyeonghwa Nuri Park (the name translates to World of Peace Park) from October 29 to 31 to host the Religious Leaders’ Forum and its Graduation Ceremony on the 30th. Hundreds of thousands, including graduates and religious leaders, arrived in Korea to attend the fully prepared, full-fledged international event that cost tens of billions of Korean Won in preparation. However, on October 29, the first day of the scheduled use of the venue, Gyeonggi Tourism Organization sent a surprise notification. They were canceling the venue reservation without any prior talks with the church. It is a complete mistreatment by a public agency toward its own people, and the display of illegitimate action seriously harmed the national standing of the Republic of Korea. How does one even explain to the religious leaders who traveled from their home countries to Korea to attend or to the graduates when something like this is done?  While Korea boasts Hallyu and hails globalization, Gyeonggi-do’s actions have become a source of national disgrace, bringing shame on an international scale by committing religious persecution. Are those accountable trying to prod Shincheonji Church of Jesus to rally against them?

All administrative procedures had been completed accordingly. After the venue lease was authorized on July 22, the payment was completed by October 2. At working-level meetings with the authorizers on October 16, the details were revised, including the scale of the event, floor plans, safety plans, and plans for special effects fireworks. Gyeonggi Tourism Organization deliberated all event details and completed a safety inspection. The same day, the news reported that Gyeonggi-do had designated Paju City as a danger zone. When asked about it, authorizers responded that the designation was to prevent any anti-North Korean flyers from the region and was unrelated to the event scheduled at the venue. There was no prior notice or regulation related to the designation or to the church’s inquiries of any changes. Moreover, the people in charge of the venue officially confirmed twice, on October 23 and then on 28, that they had no intention of canceling the venue authorization.

A government body or public agency authorizes an event to be held at a venue, an event fully proofed with safety assessments, then suddenly cancels the venue on the very day of the event following opposition from a certain religious group, then decides to use the pretext of “provocation against North Korea.” This significantly discredits the agency of public administration, and at the same time, those actions are the kind of actions that create a divide among the people and the nation it is mandated to serve. Furthermore, Gyeonggi-do Governor Kim Dong-yeon ordered the cancellation of the venue based on a thin premise of “provoking the North,” while other events took place at the exact location with no issue. An administrative action swayed by opposing opinions from a certain religious group directly violates the constitutional principle of the Separation of the Churches and the State and is an unconstitutional act profoundly deplorable in a democracy.

Is it the Gyeonggi provincial government and Gyeonggi Tourism Organization’s intent to drive Shincheonji Church of Jesus out of this land? It is unheard of for a public entity to overturn its own administrative action influenced by a disgruntled religious organization. We are rightful citizens of this country. We have no reason to be discriminated against in lawfully utilizing a public facility that is operated with our tax money.

We cannot tolerate discrimination any longer. After years of tireless efforts to find amicable solutions, such disappointing outcomes are enough to drive the church’s people to the streets to protect their rights and demand justice.

People at Shincheonji Church of Jesus are not second-class citizens who deserve discrimination or high-handedness, nor should there be any such thing as a second-class citizen. If those responsible believe their bias and persecution would spell peace for the nation, they are mistaken.

With grave concern, the people of Shincheonji Church request the following: Gyeonggi-do provincial government and Gyeonggi Tourism Organization must provide the people of Korea with a reasonable cause and rationale for its cancellation in detail; issue an official apology to all members of the church and the guests invited from home and abroad; and immediately stop discrimination based on religion in administrative actions. We, the people of Shincheonji Church of Jesus, expect a responsible reply and will otherwise seek all legal measures to resolve the issue while hundreds of thousands of church members could take to the streets demanding answers. International human rights groups will hear detailed accounts of the religious discrimination taking place in Korea, and so will civil and criminal courts.

Every citizen of the nation holds equal rights, and freedom of religion is non-negotiable. Shincheonji Church of Jesus and its congregation will see to it that everyone enjoys freedom of religion without discrimination.

Shincheonji Church of Jesus, the Temple of the Tabernacle of the Testimony

Shincheonji Church found out – when they visited the Gyeonggi Tourism Organization to deliver the letter of complaint – that the organization canceled only Shincheonji Church’s event while letting other organizations hold events at the same place. Shincheonji Church of Jesus criticized the organization for its unfair decision over a religious organization because the Constitution Law of Korea guarantees religious freedom. The Gyeonggi Tourism Organization violated its policies and Korea’s Constitution Law by suppressing a particular religion.

Before closing the event, Chairman ManHee Lee of Shincheonji Church pleaded to God and then the President of Korea to eliminate the religious suppression in the country.

Some may find it difficult to believe that a regional-owned organisation casually oppressed a certain religion in the 21st century, in South Korea. Unfortunately, indeed, it happened only a few weeks ago. Religious freedom is for everyone (The Constitution of Korea, Article 20, Clause 1), and politics and religion must be separated (The Constitution of Korea, Article 20, Clause 2). It’s a brutal violation of the foundation law of Korea.

To denounce the human rights violation, 25,000 Shincheonji Church members from the twelve tribes gathered in front of the Gyeonggi-do Provincial Government building and held a rally on 15th Nov. 2024. Their demands were clear – 1) to clarify the reason for the sudden cancellation of the venue, 2) to apologise to Shincheonji Church members and distinguished guests who had to move to Cheongju because of the Gyeonggi-do governor’s decision, and 3) to pay for the damage because of the incident.

Look how powerful their energies are!

If you have heard about Shincheonji Church, you might be familiar with the religious oppression they went through for many years. The religious oppression includes ‘coercive conversion’.

Shincheonji Church members mourned Ji-in Gu’s death. She was a victim of a coercive conversion programme, which is run by Christian pastors from existing denominations.

The Constitution of Korea clearly states that all Koreans have freedom of religion. However, Shincheonji Church members in Korea experienced the violation of human rights by being forced to convert their religion under the government’s neglect of this situation for many years.

(Surprising fact: The coercive conversion pastors are still freely running their ‘business’).

What’s worse, the previous government made a scapegoat of Shincheonji Church accusing it of spreading COVID-19 during the early COVID-19 pandemic in Korea.

If you went through the period, you’ll remember that in the early COVID-19 pandemic, no one knew what carried the virus. Through water? Air? Body contact? No one knew how to prevent the infection. At that moment, the Korean government advised Koreans to ‘live your normal life’, and then accused Shincheonji Church. Although it wasn’t their intention to spread the virus (all they did was follow the government’s advice), Shincheonji Church officially and gravely apologised to Koreans at the press conference. Even after that, Shincheonji Church members faced physical and economic threats. They were bullied, killed, and fired from their workplaces.

Nevertheless, they were devoted to their nation. They provided various and localised volunteer services to neighbours in need, held memorial events to honour the patriots who protected the nation, donated blood to prevent the national blood shortage crisis, donated blood plasma to help develop a cure for COVID-19, etc. They loved their nation even though it persecuted them to death.

Then, what made them rise? It’s because the regional governor disgraced Korea, their beloved nation.

Human rights must be respected and protected no matter what. Let's hope Korea eliminates any form of religious oppression.
