We Are One, Gangdong branch, provides clean-up service for senior citizens living alone
[Cheonji Ilbo = Reporter Ji-min Ryu] On the 7th, the youth volunteer group We Are One, Gangdong branch, visited a senior resident who was living alone in squalid conditions and carried out a clean-up service.
The resident experiences intellectual disability and was living in a poor environment, storing unnecessary belongings and rubbish at home.
The volunteer group, together with the Korea Association for People with Disabilities (Gangdong branch), disposed of about 4 tons of rubbish from the resident's home and cleaned the interior.
Ji-hwan Hwang (24), who participated in the volunteer work that day, said, “I took the time to participate in order to be of some help.”
An official from We Are One, Gangdong, said, “We will take the lead in making the world a better place for our youth, who are the future.”
In other news, We Are One has launched its blood donation campaign since August 27 with the target of completing 70,000 blood donations in order to solve the blood supply crisis. So far, a total of 54,010 donors have given blood, which is the highest number of blood donations by any single group or organisation within the shortest period of time in Korea.
