[Cheonji Ilbo Pohang = Reporter Hae-in Song] The Pohang branch of Shincheonji Volunteer Group (managed by Jabong Shin, Sujin Kim) conducted its 'Little Finger' programme to share love and hope with the Pohang branch of the Korea Association for People with Disabilities (Chairman Doo-Hwan Jang) on the 19th.
The 'Little Finger' initiative promotes the full integration of people with disabilities into society, and the creation of a unified society by breaking down existing barriers of prejudice, just as each finger fulfils a different role and is as important and necessary as the other.
After signing a mutual business agreement with the Korea Association for People with Disabilities (Pohang), Shincheonji Volunteer Group (Pohang) is conducting numerous programmes, including 'Five Senses Tour', 'Many Eyes', 'Little Finger', 'Mural Painting Design' and more, every month to promote the welfare of both the local community and the Association and to revitalise the spirit of volunteerism.
Earlier in May, Shincheonji Volunteer Group (Pohang) visited Juwangsan National Park with the Korea Association for People with Disabilities (Pohang) as an expression of gratitude to family members and teachers on the occasion of Family Month.
Members of Shincheonji Volunteer Group produced and delivered photos of their visit to Juwangsan National Park in an album in person at the Pohang branch of the Korea Association for People with Disabilities. Together, they partook in joyful festivities sharing food sponsored by a leading food store and personally made and delivered a healthy meal of duck bulgogi.
Beneficiaries of the photo album were surprised to see themselves and gave an embarrassed look or laughed out loud, saying, “It came out well.”
Doo-hwan Jang, President of the Korea Association for People with Disabilities, said, “I am grateful to Shincheonji Volunteer Group, who show sincere care for people with disabilities and carry out various volunteer initiatives such as the 'Disability Awareness Improvement Campaign.'”
Shincheonji Volunteer Group (Pohang) is engaged in various initiatives such as Visiting Health Doctor, Mural Painting Design and promoting peace in the country, as well as the monthly Good Donation, Good Consumption, Long Life Centenary, and many more campaigns.
Shincheonji Volunteer Group's Pohang Branch Director Su-jin Kim said, “We will collaborate on various programmes for the benefit of the local community, including with socially isolated groups.”
Meanwhile, Shincheonji Volunteer Group conducted the 'Live ON Blood Donation Campaign' upon the request of the Korean Red Cross in May. Their contribution has become exemplary to society.
In 2020, about 6,000 people voluntarily donated blood plasma for the development of a treatment for COVID-19, receiving government recognition for their help in solving the Coronavirus crisis.
Moreover, Shincheonji Volunteer Group is taking the lead in practising love for their neighbours in times of crisis, with hairdressing and beauty services, pink furoshiki, mural painting design, oil spill recovery on the Taean Peninsula, and emergency recovery for disasters including the Sinking of MV Sewol, 2017 Pohang earthquake and Goseong Fire of 2019.
