[Cheonji Ilbo Gyeonggi = Reporter Ryu Ji-min] The Gwacheon branches of Shincheonji Volunteer Group and 'We Are One' Youth Volunteer Group carried out a flood recovery service in Sadang-dong, Dongjak district, Seoul, in the wake of of extensive damage caused by heavy rains on the 17th and 18th.
Volunteers from both groups transported and organised damaged furniture and household items in Sadang 1-dong, and cleaned up the streets where flood waste had accumulated.
Dong-hoon Lee (30), who participated in the volunteer work, said, “I only saw the volunteer work being carried out in affected areas on the news, so it was difficult to participate at that time. It is rewarding to know that I can be of help and it encouraged me to see everyone working as one in-field.”
An official from We Are One (Gwacheon) said, “We send our deepest condolences to those affected by the unprecedented heavy rains.”
Meanwhile, the largest youth volunteer group in Korea, 'We Are One', was launched on 30 July and has a membership of 90,000, and is scheduled to make an unprecedented 70,000 blood donations at a group blood drive.
