Shincheonji Youth Volunteer Group We Are One Daejeon Branch blood donation campaign
Shincheonji Youth Volunteer Group 'We Are One' will carry out the life-sharing campaign 'Life ON Youth ON' throughout South Korea until October. This follows the group blood drive of last year, which set a world record.
This life-sharing campaign began during the July-August holiday season, when blood supplies are low and difficult to obtain. The lack of blood donations due to the ageing population and the decline of the youth is an increasing problem encountered in Korea today.
We Are One Youth Volunteer Group was launched on July 30, 2022, and at a time when South Korea was experiencing a blood crisis due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic and blood reserves fell to a 3-day supply, We Are One gathered heart and 71,121 members successfully gave blood. This collective blood drive was recognised by Guinness World Records as the largest donation by any single organisation within the shortest period of time following registration via the Korean Red Cross' official blood donation app 'Red Connect'.
Gyeong-yong Min (33), a member of We Are One Youth Volunteer Group Daejeon Branch, who aims to donate blood 50 times following the silver medal awarded for having donated over 30 times through steady blood donation activities, said, “The trigger for the initial blood donation took place at a time of crisis, after hearing that the family member of an acquaintance was urgently looking for an AB blood type. I gave blood through a designated blood donation.”
Member Min said, “Through the initial blood donation, I felt a deep sense of reward through this work of saving lives. Donating blood has become a way of life.”
He also said, “With the belief that the most valuable thing in this world is to save human life, I have been consistently donating blood, and will continue to do so.”
Meanwhile, 'We Are Red', the blood donation campaign of Shincheonji Youth Volunteer Group We Are One, focuses on saving the lives of others with life as its core value.
