82-Year-Old Monk Calls for Chairman ManHee Lee’s Bail

At 82, Venerable Hyegwang staged a one-person protest outside the Seoul Central District Court on the morning of 26th August, calling for bail for 96-year-old Shincheonji Chairman ManHee Lee.
Despite travelling overnight from Gwangju, the monk stood outside the court holding a sign urging compassion and respect for Chairman Lee’s life and human rights.
Hyegwang said he felt young compared with Chairman Lee and wanted to do what he could to support him. He remained peaceful despite opposition from another protester and concluded by bowing three times and praying for Chairman Lee’s safe return and recovery.

The protest came on the 63rd day of Chairman Lee’s detention and highlighted calls for consideration of the health, dignity, and human rights of elderly detainees.
