Shincheonji Volunteer Group Yeosu Branch receives commendation from Yeosu City Council
The Yeosu branch of Shincheonji Volunteer Group received a commendation from Yeosu City Council at the 2023 Volunteer Week ceremony held at Yeosu Culture Hall on the 7th December.
The Yeosu branch of Shincheonji Volunteer Group was established in 2015. With the basic spirit of love, light, and peace, the organisation is carrying out domestic and global social contribution projects that transcend religion, race, and national borders in the pan-social fields such as veterans welfare, disability welfare, public interest and culture campaigns.
A total of 101 volunteer services were held over a year and 1031 volunteers participated.
The 'Green Nature' volunteer project, held monthly, incorporates environmental purification activities and clean-up activities around Turtle Ship Park in Hak neighbourhood, Cultural Heritage Park and Musan Mt. Trail in Hwajang neighbourhood, and Imok-ri Beach in Hwayang town.
'Wall Story', in its 10th year, is an urban regeneration project conducted by nearly 80 branches of Shincheonji Volunteer Group across South Korea that restores dilapidated murals through paintings, depicting characteristics specific to local regions and the stories of local residents on murals. The themes and pictures designed on the murals are decorated upon the request of the beneficiaries. The location this year was Imok Village in Hwayang Town. The newly renovated mural became popular and became a popular photo spot for citizens.
The 'More the Better' volunteer project, which promotes the emotional wellbeing of one's neighbour through the sharing of companion plants and helps unite all members of society regardless of age or social status, delivered companion plants to 81 locations, including the local 119 Safety Centre, Administrative Welfare Centre, police station, and public health centre.
The 'Pinky Promise' project, which was launched in 2023, is a service purposed to break down the barriers between persons with disabilities and those who are able-bodied and to promote the importance of disability inclusion. Though the little finger is sometimes deemed the weakest, it is in fact essential for the hand to carry out its function, and is used when making a promise. A total of 5 volunteer activities were conducted, including a campaign to improve disability awareness, a painting service at an institution for people with disabilities, and a volunteer service to improve the living environment of people with disabilities.
Chung-gil Kim, head of the Yeosu branch of Shincheonji Volunteer Group, said, “I would like to thank the Yeosu city officials and volunteers who participated as one in creating a ‘beautiful Yeosu’ throughout the year.”
He added, “We will continue to break down the barriers of class, gender, religion, and politics, and cooperate and communicate for the development of the local community.”
Meanwhile, the Yeosu branch of Shincheonji Volunteer Group has been carrying out regular volunteer services such as 'Love Your Country, Share Peace', 'Visiting Health Doctor', 'Wall Story', 'Green Nature', 'More the Better', and 'Pinky Promise'.
